Ghost Lab: A Different Approach to Paranormal Research
A Paranormal Research Team with Scientific Methods Unlike Any Other
When I first started watching I immediately noticed how boisterous the Ghost Lab paranormal research team was. Unlike other paranormal research teams they are all about provoking the paranormal into showing themselves. They are not as quiet as other paranormal research teams and they don't seem to have a lot of patience in waiting for ghosts to show themselves or make themselves known.
A majority of other paranormal research teams have patience and take their time trying to communicate with the supernatural all while being polite to the spirits lurking on the other side. I think the Ghost Lab team was quiet maybe a few times while the rest of the time they were telling the supernatural to "freaking show themselves and stop hiding." If nothing happened then they would get louder and more provoking as to almost upset the spirits. I must say it certainly worked for them.
In addition, outside of being very boisterous and provoking it was evident that the Ghost Lab had a lot of money, because they had an entire scientific lab with tons of equipment inside the traveling Ghost Lab. The Ghost Lab contained everything from touch screen HDTV's, video teleconferencing equipment, to quadruple the amount of paranormal equipment like boundary sensors, audio recording equipment, and devices that increase the energy within a room. In fact, I was flabbergasted by the amount of equipment they did have. They had enough equipment to investigate an entire town. That is exactly what they did in the episode I watched Tuesday on the Discovery Channel.
It was a familiar seen and one in which I have seen the famous Ghost Hunters investigate in the past: Tombstone, Arizona. The most interesting part about Ghost Lab was the fact that they did a historical overview with commentary of the location in which they were investigating before the investigation began. The commentary also came on with technological screen shots to explain what each device was and the setup they were using and why. I found this very interesting, because it helped me understand how the research was conducted and what each piece of equipment did for the ghost hunters.
Tombstone, Arizona is a known haunting ground due to numerous encounters of paranormal phenomenon and the history of Tombstone with regard to the murders, greed, and the well-known brothels from the late 1800's. They began by questioning all the people within Tombstone. Once they obtained all the information they needed they setup equipment in four areas around Tombstone: three buildings and the graveyard. The investigation took a total of four days. The fact that the investigation went on for so many days in itself is quite different than any other paranormal television series.
It was quite amazing what they found. When Ghost Hunters went into Tombstone they had a lot of personal experiences, in the one night they were there, and a couple pieces of auditory evidence. Ghost Lab on the other hand obtained, by provoking the supernatural, quite a bit more evidence. In the end after being spoken to through an unplugged speaker in one of the buildings they had a picture in the Tombstone cemetery of a shadow person that was very noticeable and two electronic voice phenomenon (EVP) recordings. By the way the EVPs they were able to catch on recording were very clear: "choose" and "right quick." Very fascinating show and one in which I will probably watch every Tuesday.
I quite enjoyed watching Ghost Lab on the Discovery Channel, but I must say I am a true fan of Ghost Hunters and Paranormal State. The best part of all they are televised on different days.

Post a CommentThank you Julie. Crystal Ray actually gave me another idea for a show and I watched it tonight and I am hooked. Ghost Adventures will definitely bring reality to the views of paranormal research.
Thanks Crystal for the new show. I am definitely adding this one to my collection. The castle one on tonight was crazy.
Happy writing :)

Definitely catch up Tamara. This weekend I believe is a marathon for Paranormal State. Crystal thank you for the update on a new show, Ghost Adventures. My wife is programming that into the DVR as we speak. Happy writing :)
I also prefer Ghost Hunters and Paranormal State, but I've added Ghost Lab to my list of DVR shows. Ghost Adventures is on tonight. That's a good one too. I'm guessing it will be a rerun, but I'll watch it again. I prefer my ghost shows over anything else. Another excellent article!
Interesting - I'll have to try to catch an episode of this.
I watch Discovery all the time and just ran across Ghost Lab the other night and decided to watch as that is a passion of mine. Definitely an interesting show. Happy writing :)
