Scary
Ghost Story: Alice Krige did an excellent job of portraying Eva Galli, the vengeful ghost who took fifty years to get back at the men who killed her. Better late than never, I guess.
The Shining (Kubrik version): Stephen King tried to remake this film so that it fit closer to the book, but it fell flat. Nobody can play Jack Torrance like Jack Nicholson. "Heeere's Johnny!"
What Lies Beneath: This is one of my favorite ghost stories. Not only do Harrison Ford and Michelle Pfeiffer have good stage chemistry, but they were able to carry out their roles exceedingly well in this heart-stopping thriller.
The Grudge: I still get the creeps whenever I see that woman's ghost slipping under the covers to attack Sarah Michelle Gellar.
Mind-Bending
The Others: This movie had a very unique twist at the end and one that I never saw coming until then.
1408: Stephen King creates the creepiest hotels. Poor John Cusack has to find his way out of that infamous room before it kills him or drives him insane.
Sad
Ghost: Whoopi Goldberg was great in her part as a fake medium-turned believer. The chemistry between Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore was fantastic. Everybody knows how the movie ends.
The Orphanage: This was the first and only Spanish movie that I've watched. The story and atmosphere was so well done that I didn't need to read the subtitles to know what was going on.
The Sixth Sense: Excellent movie with a twist that people saw coming, if they were paying attention.
Funny
Scrooged: I'll never forget the way Bobcat Goldthwait chased Bill Murray around with that shotgun or Carol Cane whacking him with a toaster.
The Frighteners: Michael J. Fox did well in his role as a psychic medium. This movie had several funny moments despite his character's tragic backstory and the otherworldly serial killer
