Ghost Sightings at the American Club Hotel Resort in Kohler, Wisconsin

The American Club, located in Kohler Wisconsin, was open in 1918 to house immigrant laborers who came to work at the Kohler Company. The Tudor-styled hotel has 240 rooms fitted with state-of-the-art Kohler plumbing works. In 1981, the old hotel underwent some extensive renovations, but that didn't halt the ghosts from haunting the hotel, which still has some of the antiques displayed in the hallways.

A guest, who stayed at the American Club, recalled his experience with the ghostly sighting. He recalled seeing a man smoking a cigar, wearing faded corduroy jeans and a torn and dirty flannel shirt standing in the hallway of the hotel. The attire the man was wearing was unusual for someone to be wearing in the hallway of such a prestigious hotel.

The guest passed the man, who continued to stare at the floor as the guest said, "Good Evening." The man never acknowledged the greeting or the guest walking by. Later, as the guest was walking back the way in the hallway, he spied the man still standing in the same place. The guest continued walking by without saying anything. After the guest passed the ghostly man, he turned around to see that the man was gone.

Security tapes later viewed, showed that the guest waved and talked to no one in the hallway. The tape didn't show the guest was crazy, but it did show the guest making the waving gesture and saying something to a wall where the ghostly man had been standing.

Another area of the American Club that is said to be haunted is the East Wing, which happens to be the oldest wing of the hotel. A young woman appears in room 209 or in the room across the hall, known as the Washington Room. The woman hanged herself in room 209. Sometimes, she is seen wondering around the room or standing in the Washington Room in front of the fireplace.

Near room 315 in the American Club, a man has been seen wondering down the hall coming from the room where a woman was killed. As the man walks through the hallway, the lights will turn on without anybody doing it.

The paranormal is intriguing, but seeing it happen first hand is incredible. If you have an opportunity to visit Kohler or any of the surrounding towns, stay at the American Club near or in rooms 209 and 315 or in the back part of the hotel. You may be able to get a look for yourself of the ghosts that haunt the famous Midwest resort built for class and not ghosts.
