Ghost Themed Art Projects for Preschool and Toddler Students

Michelle S
These ghost themed art projects are perfect for preschool and toddler aged students. These projects are neither spooky nor scary, instead they turn ghosts into friendly little nighttime companions for the tiniest students.

Ghostly Footprints

Cover the bottom of a child's foot in white paint and help him or her press it onto a piece of blue or gray paper to make a white footprint. After the painting is dry, turn the footprint upside down and help the child draw two black circles for eyes on the heel of the foot to make an adorable keepsake ghost.

Ghost Lacing Card

Cut a ghost shape out of white cardstock and using a hole punch, punch holes ever half inch all the way around the edge of the cardstock. Have students draw a face on the ghost with a black crayon or marker then tape one end of a black piece of yarn to the back of the ghost. Thread the other end through a kid safe plastic needle or tape the end of the yarn to make it stiff enough for threading. Help students thread the yarn all around their pumpkin. To secure the other end, tape it to the back of the ghost.

Ghosts at Night Art Scene

Give students a piece of white paper and crayons. Have them draw a scene at the bottom of the paper with houses, trees, and cars. Using a white crayon, have the students draw ghosts shapes in the sky section of their drawing. Using black watercolors or black paint thinned with water, instruct students to paint their whole paper to see the ghost shapes appear in the night sky of their scene.

Balloon Ghost Decorations

Blow up a balloon for each child and cut out a piece of square white cloth that will fit over the balloon. Drape the white cloth over the balloon and help students secure it with a piece of white string or ribbon. Provide black markers so students can make eyes on the balloons. Hang your ghost balloons from your classroom ceiling or from the branches of a tree outside.

Ghost Lollipops

This ghost project is so simple yet it has been a favorite of kids for generations. Give each student a Tootsie Pop, a couple of tissues, and a piece of orange or black pipe cleaner. Let students drape their tissues over the top of their Tootsie Pops and tie the tissues at the base with their pipe cleaner. Provide a black marker so students can draw eyes on their ghosts.

These are some very cute ideas! The classic crayon resist is ideal for Halloween/ghost artwork. I like the idea of the white footprint - cute for toddlers.
