Ghost Whisperer Kills Off Jim Clancy

If you are not familiar with the show, Ghost Whisperer is about Melinda Gordon, played by the beautiful Jennifer Love-Hewitt, who has the ability to see and communicate with ghosts. Her primary concern is helping them to "crossover". Melinda is married to the love of her life, Jim Clancy (played by David Conrad), a paramedic/fire fighter, who is her rock, her security and the all-around perfect husband.

So you can imagine the shock when on the November 7th epidode, they kill Jim off. He died in a hospital room from an embolism after being accidentally shot in the shoulder by a cop who was responding to a home where a depressed, dumped-at-the-altar groom was holed up. There had been hints since last season that someone close to Melinda would die, but most people assumed it would be Delia (played by Camryn Manheim), who works with Melinda at her antique store, and really serves no purpose on the show. But they must not have wanted to repeat the killing of Melinda's staff since they killed off her best friend/employee Andrea (played by Aisha Tyler) at the end of Season 1.

Another departure from the show this season is Professor Rick Payne (played by Jay Mohr, who left the show to star in his own comedy series, Gary Unmarried). And a new edition to the show is Jamie Kennedy who is playing Eli James, a man who dies but is revived only to discover that he now has the ability to hear ghosts, but cannot see them.

However, the fans will get to see David Conrad for a few more episodes since it appears that Jim will be an earthbound spirit for a little while. This will of course allow for a tearful fairwell between Jim and Melinda, once Melinda is able to convince Jim to crossover. But what is to come of the show after the beloved Jim Clancy is gone? Many fans have been posting in forums that they will no longer watch the show. Many are hoping that this is just a dream and Melinda will soon wakeup. But there does seem to be a unanimous opinion that the writers have made a huge mistake by killing Jim. Jim's absence from the show is sure to create a void that cannot be filled by the recent addition of Jamie Kennedy. So if ratings do drop, it looks like Ghost Whisperer will be crossing over into the deep dark pit of cancelled shows.
