Ghost of the World

Mandi Renfroe
In the window sill of a solitary house , I lay.
Listening to the rain fall on the steps outside.
The steps in which I once walked up holding your hand.
Now fill up with tears from the morose sky.

I listen to a girl singing from below.
A shaking voice, but more powerful than the storm above us.
To the protrusive sad girl, her song is golden.
While strangers around her, wait in silence for the noise to stop.

A boy walking with an empty outlet in his heart, pauses.
Like an electrical shock something plugs into the outlet.
And for a treasured moment, he feels whole.
He continues walking to find the gold at the end of the rainbow.

The thunder from the prestige sky that surrounds us, fades.
His heart beats faster than the water hitting against his warm face.
Until he approaches suddenly a window, stopping, gazing.
At a girl who the world rejected as a nobody, he smiles.

The singing stops, as the ghost from the world stares at an angel outside.
To the residents, the noise has lastly ended.
To the two who have found the other half of their soul
The song will play for them as they are forever together.
