Ghostbusters

"Are you the Key Master?" asks the sultry, yet demonic, Dana Barret (played by Sigourney Weaver) as she opens the door to Dr. Peter Venkman (played by Bill Murray) in the 1984 smash hit Ghostbusters. "Yes. Actually I'm a friend of his, he asked me to meet him here," replied Venkman as he slipped into the apartment. Venkman is certain that Barret has been possessed by an evil spirit named Zuul. Luckily, Dr. Venkman knew what to do...kind of.

Before the release of Ghostbusters, strange neighborhood happenings simply went unreported or were ignored by the local law enforcement. This movie blew the door wide open for ghost reporting; and gave everybody somebody to call.

Having lived through the eighties it is almost impossible for me to hear someone say, "who ya gonna call?" and not immediately hear in my head...."Ghostbusters." This jingle-sounding theme song scored a number one billboard hit for Ray Parker, Jr.

The Ghostbusters movie was well-acted comedy at its finest. Besides Murray and Weaver, Ghostbusters also featured Harold Ramis as Dr. Egon Spengler, and Dan Aykroyd as Dr. Ray Stantz, completing Murray's ghost busting team. Annie Potts plays exasperated receptionist Janine Melnitz. The movie begins with the three scientists researching ghosts at Columbia University. They decide to set up shop as ghost busters after their parapsychology science grants are terminated and they are expelled from the university. Just as the business is about to go under they manage to catch an actual ghost, which results in their business becoming besieged with.....phone calls. At this point they hire Winston Zeddemore played by Ernie Hudson to help with the influx of demonic activity.

The aforementioned Dana Barrett is one of these callers. She asks the team to investigate some strange goings-on in her kitchen. Once Venkman meets her, he sees this as an opportunity for romance. This leads to some hilarious yet spooky encounters. Anyone who is looking for a great laugh should watch this PG rated movie.
