"Ghosts of Girlfriend's Past" I Barely Even Want to Talk About It

Connor Mead (Matthew McConaughey) is player and because he is playing women and ruining lives he gets visited by three ghosts of what? Ghosts of Girlfriend's Past.

There was decent acting by everyone in the movie, how bland of me to state. The two main stars, Jennifer Garner and Matthew McConaughey, played well together. They had a sensible chemistry. It was nothing smoldering, but it worked for the film. What did not work for the film was the length. It was far too long and what is the rule about comedies and an hour and half tops? Exactly. This one went over that by about 25 minutes.

The best parts were when the girlfriend ghost came. The first one was Allison Vandermeersh, played by Emma Stone, and she was awesome. Stone did the best job by far of every single actor in the movie. She is the reason one should want to see the film. She was dorky, geeky, weird, funny and awkward. She made it worth watching. Had she not been in this film it would have just failed, big time. They should thank her profusely for agreeing to do it in such hideous eighties hair.

The trailer, once again (in general), ruins the film. In the trailer they show Connor messing with the wedding cake. That would have been one of the best surprises had they not shown it. It would have made that scene that much funnier. They had to reveal it in the trailer. I don't know why...there was enough material to work into the trailer without having that spoiled.

I enjoyed how men who are like Connor go for conquest not realizing that the same could be said about some of the women that go for them. This idea that someone can be the master player and never get played by someone who is a mere pawn in the game of chess would have to have never seen a master play chess. Every piece has power on that board and every piece has the ability to remove the powerful ones. A pawn can take down a Queen and so too in this crazed life a woman who seems to be played can be the one being the player.

Or maybe I'm just making this movie far more philosophical just to make it more interesting to type about. Crap, that is so it.

Ghosts of Girlfriend's Past is a forgettable, trite and bland (over all) movie. It got a B- for a combination of funny moments and great acting by Stone. There is mild charm and enough entertaining bits to keep it going. But when there is a big speech or a sorry the script deals with it like it's anticlimactic and it just falls flat on its face and the hollowness that one feels at the beginning just multiplies and echoes throughout the film, right up to the end. It's annoying.

I don't think it's totally worth paying to see, but if you want to waste you money...you go and do that. I'm finished because I'm sick of writing about it.
