G.I. Joe: 25th Anniversary Action Figures

John Vann
People always say the toys their children have and play with are way more fun and interesting than the toys they played with when young, and this is still true today. And if you are a fan of G.I. Joe action figures, there has never been a better time to be a kid - or in perhaps even a collector. In celebration of their 25th anniversary, Hasbro has redone and re-released some of the figures from the original line of action figures. And not only G.I. Joe, but their enemies, Cobra as well.

Most of us (boys at least) can remember playing G.I. Joe with our friends as a child. We would compare collections, and possibly even trade figures with each other. However, a lot figures simply were not available at the time, and some were released only in certain regions, and so on. This made completing your collection as a child all but impossible.

However, Hasbro has done everything to correct this issue with these 25th anniversary action figures. Some are sold in themed multi packs like the Cobra Set (including Cobra Commander, Destro, Storm Shadow and more), the G.I. Joe set (containing Duke, Snake Eyes and Roadblock, amongst others) and the Cobra Legions set (which features an alternate Cobra Commander and more). This makes starting a new collection or expanding on an existing one a breeze.

Many of the G.I. Joe 25th anniversary figures are also available in individual packs, as well. Hasbro has released many of the more sought after, hard to find figures in packages by themselves. This makes it easier to find that specific figure you've been looking for to complete your own collection.

Apart from the leaders and main characters of the line, some of the lesser known characters have been re-released too. Characters like Wild Bill, Sgt. Flash, Shipwreck, Barbecue, and Spirit Iron Knife are amongst those fighting with G.I. Joe. Buzzer, the Crimson Guard, Zartan, Major Bludd, and the twins Tomax and Xamot are amongst the 25th anniversary figures that have been re-released for Cobra. Some action figures from both sides even have multiple variants that have now been re-released for easy collectability.

In order to commemorate their 25th anniversary, Hasbro has even released a figure that is meant for both the diehard G.I. Joe collector and the serious investor. Hasbro has a very limited run of one of their most iconic Cobra characters, Destro, available. These are already authentic collector's edition, rated by the AFA (Action Figure Authority) and retail for over $100.
