Giants Fan Reaction: New York Giants Humbled by Dallas Cowboys 33-20

Well, didn't see that coming. Pretty sure no Giants fans did. I'd bet that, even if you believed the Cowboys would be improved, that you didn't see that coming. Well, neither did the football Giants.

The Dallas Cowboys humbled the New York Giants 33-20 at the New Meadowlands Stadium on Sunday. A game box score and recap can be found here.

The good : New York fans are pleased with the way the Giants fought back throughout the contest. The Cowboys jumped out to a 20 point lead in the third quarter on two occasions. Both times, the Giants came right back with touchdown drives. The team's defense showed up midway through the third and kept Dallas off the scoreboard. New York really wasn't out of it until Eli Manning threw his second interception of the game late in the fourth quarter.

Plenty of Giants fans wondered how the team's wide receivers would handle playing without Steve Smith, who is out for (at least) the next couple of weeks due to a pectoral injury. Give Mario Manningham credit for stepping up. He finished with ten receptions and a touchdown.

Both "Good Eli" and "Bad Eli" showed up against the Cowboys. The Good Eli kept the Giants in the game during the second half, and he finished completing 33 of 48 attempts for 373 yards and two touchdowns.

The bad : Fans didn't know whether to blame Bad Eli or Hakeem Nicks for the pick six that occurred midway through the second quarter, but that 14-point swing was a game changer. The Giants were yards away from taking the lead when Nicks zigged, Manning's pass zagged and Bryan McCann intercepted the ball and raced 101 yards down the field for the Dallas touchdown.

Jon Kitna lit the New York defense up, largely because the Giants pass rush that we've seen over the past five games was, well it was somewhere else. One sack and a few QB hits isn't going to get the job done against any quarterback playing in the NFL.

All week leading up to the game, I and numerous New York Giants followers agreed on one thing; nobody in the New York secondary can cover Dez Bryant one on one. Bryant only had a few catches, but each of them had a huge impact on the game. His touchdown catch in the first quarter was the thing dreams are made of. Bryant is one of those "I wish he was on my favorite team" sort of players even New York Giants fans appreciate; possibly the only one currently on the Cowboys.

The ugly : The power outage at the New Meadowlands Stadium was a scary occurrence for those stuck in the dark. Reading Tweets and texts from nervous fans waiting for positive news was a sharp reminder of the times.

Punter Matt Dodge was awful, no other way to say it. A few shanks cost the Giants field position in the first half. He had a great opportunity to pin Dallas deep in their own zone and possibly shift the tide of the game near the end of the third, but his punt sailed into the end zone, resulting in numerous "We Want Feagles" chants and Tweets. Feagles is becoming the most popular punter in Giants history after his retirement.

Overall : Nightmares of another New York Giants second half collapse are already being spoken of by fans throughout the NY/NJ area. The more rational thinking individuals are taking the "the Giants came into this game way too cocky and it cost them a win" road. Dallas was simply better than New York on Sunday. There's no denying that fact. If this New York Giants team shows up next Sunday night, it will be bad times in Philly.
