The first thing you will notice about the Gibson SG faded is the roughness of the neck. When it says "faded" it means really faded. Sliding on the neck is difficult and though I haven't, You feel as if you are about to get slivers from the body. Another thing i didn't like is the fact that Gibson went cheap and didn't even put pickup covers on, and now it has open coil pickups. Now everyone says that the $579.99 is very cheap. Well yes it is-for a Gibson. But you have to remember the standard SG by Gibson cost's over $1,000. And this guitar is cheap, and it shows. I own an Epiphone SG special, and sorry to say but the Gibson isn't much higher quality than my Epi. I think the main reason people love this guitar is because it is a Gibson. Gibson could take a shit, roll it up on tin foil and sell it for at least $1,000. I think that this guitar is a rip-off for the money and you should either get an ibanez that are higher quality (and much cheaper) or just save up for the big money, the Gibson Standard SG. When playing this guitar it just feels flimsy. The body is VERY thin and light so if you are going into a guitar solo, don't try anything fancy and be throwing it around. It will probably break.
Now, the pickups that they use are cheap. For almost $600 i think Gibson could throw in some nicer pickups and hardware. They use these things, 490R and 490T alnico magnet humbuckers. Sounds impressive huh? Well they're not. At all. My epiphone has better stock pickups than that. If you really wanted to make this guitar a lot better, I suggest getting some Gibson burstbuckers which is what the standard Gibson Les Paul has. Now those pickups can scream.
Here are the mfr. specs.
- Mahogany body
- Mahogany neck
- Rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays
- 24-3/4" scale
- 1-11/16" nut width
- Tune-o-matic bridge with stopbar tailpiece
- Chrome hardware
- 490R and 490T alnico magnet humbuckers
- Controls: 2 volume, one tone, 3-way switch

Gibson started making guitars in the 50's after a man named Les Paul. Ring any bells?

Post a CommentThis is the worst review I've ever read. About anything. Period.
dude, stop chatting shit. i have one of these, they rule, and how can you even review this owning an epi special, let alone compare the two! the epi won't even stay in tune and this thing has 6 piece Gibson Deluxe's on it. and in reply to the thing about pickups with no covers, this actually improves sound quality as true attraction of the sound from the alnico pups is now not obstructed, creating a clearer tone. Finally the neck, slow? Read a million other reviews, and speak to someone who has this, and you'll know that this is lightning fast, without even been worn in. i'm sorry dude, but i think you should stick to reviews when you know what you're talking about. good day :)
the lack of a finish is great,
hand posiiton is important for me,
no sliding, i always get where i want to go.
splinter fear? slivers? no way.
awesome guitar, and i do have a les paul and epiphone sg. sorry the epiphone sg pickups are not better.
that said, the stock pickups are fair. i changed mine to classics,
its cool. not for strat pansies
guess some people just like shiny things.

I have this guitar, and I love it. Play the neck for a few weeks, or better yet, do what I did and buy a used one, and the neck is plenty smooth. Changed the pickups to a humbucker sized p90, and I love the light weight body. Yeah, it's cheap. It also feels like a million bucks.
At least go play one, I love mine.
now why dont you tell us whats good about this guitar?
