Gift Ideas for College Graduates

Angelie MacKenzie
I'm an impossible person to buy gifts for. I hate everything. So when I finished from college everyone had a hard time picking out gifts for me. But sometimes, the answer is pretty much what anyone else would want. Cash always makes a great present. Here are some other ideas as well.

A degree frame from the college

College bookstores sell special degree frames with their name on them. The frame I have also has the college's emblem on it. These make really nice gifts since they cost about $200.

A graduate stuffed animal

Some people may not want a simple little teddy bear wearing a cap and gown. Since I liked Snoopy and Woodstock when I was a little kid, my mom got me a little Woodstock wearing a cap and gown from Hallmark. It's so cute. Since it's also a money holder, it has a rolled up piece of paper that it holds that looks like a degree. This is a really cheap gift so if you get one you really need to buy something else too.

A car

If the student doesn't already have a car, then a vehicle would make a perfect graduation present. Starting out in life can be hard enough, and if you don't already have a vehicle then it's worse. Help out your favorite graduate with a way to get to their new job.

A computer

Even if the person already has a computer, it may be time for an upgrade. And if they need a new computer and are planning to go to graduate school, a new computer would really help them out.

Help paying off student loans

Perhaps you didn't offer to help the student go to college because you wanted them to take school more seriously. Now that they are graduating, you could offer to help pay their student loans or even pay them off.

Pay graduation fees

Most colleges have the students buy their caps and gowns. In addition to that, some schools charge the students a fee for their degree. My school didn't, but I have heard of this. Also, some schools take pictures and/or make videos at graduation and then sell them. Helping out with these costs would be a great gift.

A nice outfit for interviews

If the student went straight from high school to college, they probably don't have a nice outfit for interviews. For this gift, it'd be a good idea to take the student with you.

A graduation party

This one is a little obvious. But then again, some people don't really think about having a party for finishing college. It really depends on if it can be organized to suit everyone that you want to invite.

Those are great ideas for parents with kids graduating, and also for their friends and planning a party.

Oops, I forgot to include in the list a college class ring.
