Gift buying can be difficult. Knowing the hobbies of the receiver can help you find the perfect gift. One of the fastest growing sport hobbies is Geocaching. Just like every hobby Geocaching has its gadgets and gizmos that are not required but make Geocaching easier and more enjoyable. Even if your budget is tight you can find a great gift for the Geocaching enthusiast on your list.
Head Lamp
A comfortable and lightweight head lamp is a great tool to have for any geocacher. The head lamp keeps the cachers hands free for their GPS, pen, compass, etc. Most LED lamps do not have a wide enough light to be useful when caching, so even though they are cheaper they may not be your best buy. Also be sure that the head lamp can use rechargeable batteries.
Battery Charger and Rechargeable Batteries
Many GPS units, head lamps, and other Geocaching gadgets use AA batteries. These high tech gadgets drain batteries quickly making rechargable batteries a necessity. If your budget allows you could buy a battery charger that charges multiple sizes of batteries to ensure every gadget that your Geocacher uses can is fitted with rechargable batteries.
Walking Stick
Depending on where your cacher goes Geocaching there may be a lot of hiking involved. A designer walking stick that is personalized with the cachers team name makes a wonderful gift.
Wrist PDA and Cache Mate
Many geocachers carry either printouts of the caches they are searching for or they use a Palm Computer. Cachers that are properly outfitted have plenty to carry, a wrist PDA reduces that load and doubles as a watch! I bought my Fossil brand Wrist PDA on Ebay for less than $50. If you are tech savvy yourself you can also download the Cachemate software from online for just $8 and make your gift even more perfect.
Walk Talkies
Most people do not geocache alone so keeping in contact with teammates is important. A nice set of hands free Walkie Talkies will be a welcome gift that they didn't know they needed! Be sure the Walkie Talkies have at least a one mile range, twelve or more channels, and allows user to install rechargeable batteries.
