Gift Ideas for Your Hunting Buddy

Need to Get Your Hunting Buddy a Gift? Look No Further!

Jessie Kay
During the hunting season, you spend nearly every weekend together, whether you're trying to bag a buck or hunt down a few pheasants or two. If your hunting buddy's birthday is coming up, Christmas, or any other occasion, you might be racking your brain on what to get him for a gift. Chances are, your hunting buddy probably already buys everything he needs himself. So, what do you get him for a gift? Here are a few gift ideas for your hunting buddy.

Gift Cards for Hunting Stores

Sure, it's an easy gift that doesn't require much thought. But it's definitely something he can use. As you probably know, hunting is an expensive sport, so any help toward gear expenses will be well-received by any hunting buddy. But make sure it's a store he frequents; if your hunting buddy lives two hours away from the nearest Cabela's, you might want to think of a different store. On the other hand, most retailers (including Cabela's) allow customers to use gift cards on online purchases. Cabela's, Gander Mountain, Dick's Sporting Goods,, Bass Pro Shops, Dunham's are just a few examples of stores a hunter would like.

Game Recipe Books

So 'ya shot all those pheasants or bagged that buck; now what to do with all that meat? Give your hunting buddy a wild game cookbook and he'll find new ways to prepare the processed meat. One popular cookbook is the "Wild Game Cookbook: Recipes from North America's Top Hunting Resorts and Lodges." It includes 80 recipes for various wild game (including venison, bear and pheasant), wine pairings, trimmings and desserts. This, and other wild game cookbooks, can be purchased online at Amazon or can be found in your local bookstore.

Hunter Soap / Bathing Kits

This isn't meant as a "gag" gift or a way to tell your buddy that he stinks; hunter's soap is actually a product he probably needs, especially if he hunts elk or deer. This specialty soap takes away a human's scent that can be detected by an animal. Scent-a-Way, by Hunter's Specialties, is one of the more popular products on the market, and can be purchased at most sporting goods stores or online.

Hand and Foot Warmers

Every outdoorsman needs warm hands and feet when braving the cold weather during hunting season...and chances are, your hunting buddy uses hand and feet warmers. HeatMax and Grabber are two of the popular brands of hand and foot warmers, and as an avid user of these myself, I really don't see much difference in quality between the two. Depending on your budget, you can purchases these in single packs or in bulk, by the box.

Where to get them:

At any sporting goods store, gas stations, big box stores (Wal-Mart, Target) or various online stores, such as Amazon.
