There are some who home school their children because of the neighborhood environment and people around. All the educators, elementary, middle, high school teachers, college professors, Sunday school teachers should be commended for their acts of service to children and the community at large. So when an educator does something to make the nightly news, many are quick to go over judgment and put all teachers in the same pot.
Let's evaluate each teacher independently on his or her own merits. There are hundreds of thousands of educators doing an awesome job of challenging the minds of our young people. They too feel the disappointment when the profession is cast in a negative light. I have been a student once and saw my teacher stay over preparing class for the next day, late that night. Most teachers will experience countless hours thinking of new ways to creatively present information to the children.
Remember, the majority of the students will grasp the concept the first time around, but there are a few who will need reinforcement. Teachers do not want to leave any children behind because of their training and the professionalism exhibited in the schools and the communities. During the month of May, most schools will hold a teacher appreciation day, month or week. This is a time to set aside to let teachers and administrators know that everyone value their commitment to our future.
A key element of teaching your child to be successful in life is to model an appreciative spirit. Parents, here are a few tips to help make the last full month of school a success for your child's teacher:
- Ask the teacher to create a wish list for the completion of the school year and make plans to help implement the wishes.
- Drop by the school and personally thank your child's teacher for everything that he/she does and how the community feels about it.
- Make an audio slide show of the class activities for the year and present it the last day of school.
- Let the children create their own gift certificate and wrap it. Let them explain why they made it.
- Let your child create a card on the computer that is customized for the individual person.
There are much more ways to appreciate the teachers and show your gratitude. So to all the teachers in the region, states, and nation, know that our society today as well as the leadership of our nation do appreciate your awesome work in the classroom, and we salute all of you collectively for being role models for our children daily.
