Gift In A Jar: Craft Ideas and Recipe for Snowman Soup

Done well, this is one of the most creative "Gift In A Jar" projects I've ever seen. Try gifting with a wintry decorated mug and a candy cane "stirrer", or attach a Candied Teaspoon (see recipe in this book) to the jar. My daughter was given a snowman soup gift for Christmas that contained a mug with Santa on it, and the goodies inside included snowman shaped marshmallows.

The Recipe

Yields: 1-28 servings
Difficulty: Easy

Ingredients:
4 cups dry milk
1 cup unsweetened cocoa
2 cups sugar
½ teaspoon salt

Directions:

Combine all ingredients, one ingredient at a time, in a mixing bowl. After adding each ingredient, mix well with a whisk.

To package, you can use anything from single-serving sizes to the full mix. Single-serving sizes are best done in "tag bags". Include ¼ cup of the mixture for each serving. The labeling you use will depend on how many servings you are going to package.

Single-Serving Label:

Add 1 cup boiling water to Snowman Soup mix. Garnish with whipped cream or marshmallows and cuddle up with a good book to enjoy!

This label is created to fit a full-size zip-style sandwich bag or "baggie".

Place ¼ cup of the Snowman Soup mixture into the baggie, and seal well. Print one label for each mixture bag. Card Stock and other thick papers will work best, but even regular printer paper works fine.

When the labels are dry, cut them out just outside the blue pattern line. Then, fold them in half. The crease that you make should sit flush with the top of your baggie when you place the folds over (completely "hugging") the baggie. Then, use two staples at each end to finish it off.

Multiple-Serving Label:
