A Present for Those Who Have Everything

Julie Richards
Adopt an Endangered Species

The World Wildlife Organization (see References) allows people to adopt an endangered species. The kit comes with a stuffed replica of the chosen animal, along with a picture, a fact sheet and the adoption certificate. These adoption gifts allow you to choose the region and the animal. If you are not sure which animal to choose, a gift card allows the gift recipient to make his selection at a later date. A birthday trip to the zoo is an ideal way to present the adoption certificate.

Gift a Star

The International Star Registry (see References) and other organizations offer the gift of naming a star. A certificate comes with the purchase that shows the name and location of the star. The star can be named in honor of the birthday person. The certificate also shows where, in the sky, the star is located so on that special night people can try to view the star through the telescope. A telescope makes a perfect complementary gift.

An Acre of Rainforest

World Land Trust (see References) offers a way to protect the planet and create an unusual gift in the process. An acre of land in the project region of your choice can be protected in the name of the birthday recipient. For a $100 donation, save an acre of land and the wildlife inhabiting the area. The donation is noted and the donor's name-or the person you are gifting-is added to the list on their website.
