How, may you ask???? Here are 10 fabulous ways to get your Mother's Groove Back on Mother's Day without spending a bundle and conveniently wrapped up in the form of a gorgeous gift certificate well worth the trip....
1. Gift Certificate to a Medi-Spa: Notice I said Medi-Spa, not just Spa. Okay, Spas are so 2001 and in 2008 you may want to upgrade your mommy's day gift to a Medi-Spa. A Medi-Spa is so well worth it because they have actual healthcare professionals as well as spa aestheticians. They work together to deliver optimal service with medical resources and expertise while delivering feel goods rejuvenation. Medi-Spas can range from $75 to $500 depending on the session selected. Few even include day long treatments with yoga included. Okay, so you can't make it to a Medi-Spa or their services are price a little out of budget -fine! Check out Spas that are really reknown for their services - they are actually one notch away from the stature of a Medi-Spa like Stonewater Spa. My personal experience in Greenwich was phenomenal and they have 13 other locations throughout the country... My experience was exquisite...
2. Gift Certificate to a Theme Park: Let your mom have a blast with her friends at a local theme park. How cool is that? It will give your mom the opportunity to let go and be a kid again. She can enjoy the water rides, circus wheels or circus animals. She can play at the booth for cool prizes like stuffed animals. Theme Parks are all over - some small and local or big and well-known. If you or your mom is going to be in the Orlando area, Epcot center is great for all ages. Make sure you get there early. If you are in the NYC area, Land of Make Believe actually is open on a reservation basis in case you want to make it a group trip. If not, a season pass would be excellent for $81.
3. Gift Certificate to a Sightseeing Tour: Is your mom just hours away from a nearby major city. Well most major cities provide Sightseeing tours. But if your mom is not afraid of heights, go all out and surprise her with a Helicopter Sightseeing tour. NYC has in-air sights for $140 bucks. You get to check out Statue of Liberty, Chrysler Building, Ellis Island, Central Park and more.. Miami has bird's eye views of the tropical shore and beaches...
4. Gift Certificate to the Arts: Go Sophisticated with your Gift to Momma Dukes. Try the arts - give her a gift certificate to the Musuem. MoMA is always having great venues. There is also funky museums like the Museum of Modern Sex {C'mon now, like your mom doesn't think about it).. Or try a play; it could be broadway or even a local play. Helen Hayes Theatre in Nyack has some awesome shows going on. http://www.helenhayespac.org for more info. Blue Men Group, Stomp, Rent are excellent plays, as well.
5. Gift Certificate to a Casino: Sounds weird? Well its not... Actually most Casinos want to optimize your experience there by making it as homely as possible. So, they upgraded the gift certificate idea to a gift card. Foxwoods is notorious for that - you can purchase the gift card over the phone and have it sent to your mum in a lovely envelope or gift box.
6. Gift Certificate to an Arena: Bring the competitive spirit out of Mom this year. Get her a gift certificate to Madison Square Garden, Giants Stadium or the Wamu Center. She can check out the latest B-ball game, concert or tournament she likes that day.
7. Gift Certificate to Apple Store: My biggest Mom's day was when I got my mom a gift certificate to the Apple Store. I really wanted her to keep in touch and remain relevant to the changing tech times. So if your mom is like my mom, she may be asking I-too who? So a trip to the store, a knowledgeable sales clerk got my mom interested in the I-pod. She now downloads yoga vidcasts for her morning exercise routines. How about that???
8. Gift Certificate to DSW: Okay, what woman doesn't love shoes.... At least, shoe shopping. DSW or Marty's Shoe Outlet or Nordstrom's is a spectacular gift. It gets Mom an opportunity to splurge on something she wouldn't have gotten for herself anyway. That $300 Manolo Blahnik - yeah, the cream strappy gladiator - why not?
9. Gift Certificate for Travel: If she's millions of miles away, and your mother's day wouldn't be complete without being with her - send her airfare tix in advance to Jet Blue, Southwest or Spirit {whichever is not bankrupt or air transportation for weeks}. Let her know that it just wouldn't be Mother's day if you both can't share it together....
Hope this helps with your decision for an innovative and exciting Mother's day with Momma Duke. However, you decide to spend it with her - make sure it's happy and healthy...
