Gifts to Give a Poser Addict for Who is 3D Model Challenged

Do you have a friend or relative who is addicted to Poser? Are you 3D model challenged when it comes to trying to figure out what to get this person for a gift? Well have no more fears about this, I'm about to tell you the top twenty-three gifts you can give your Poser addict, and come out on top.

Being 3D model challenged when you're trying to figure out what to get a Poser addict can make holidays/birthdays not as much fun. After all when your Poser addict is throwing around words like mats, textures, and rendering, it can all get a little confusing.

First of all let me give you a bit of a grasp on what all the fuss is about. Poser is a program that allows its users to work in a three dimensional universe. Unlike 2D art which may look as though it has three sides, but which is flat, you can tell when you look at work created in Poser that it is three dimensional.

While Poser comes with a certain number of characters which really just means people, and props, these are things like hair, clothing, furniture and such. Most people purchase characters and props. The reason for this is what can be purchased has a higher quality of realism in many cases than what comes with the Poser software package, although Poser 7 has some quite realistic looking characters included in its software package.

Your Poser addict "poses" these characters, props, and such in the Poser software program, and then uses the final version as a piece of art, and or animation. Anyone that has seen artwork created in Poser can tell it's quite detailed.

Okay now that you have a little better of an idea just what your Poser addict is up to when they're glued to their computer screen waiting for a piece of artwork to render, I can begin making some suggestions as to the sorts of gifts your Poser addict will appreciate.

Here are my top 23 gifts for the Poser Addict:

1. Hair Props: Being a Poser addict myself I know that you can never have too many hair props, particularly for the guys. Since most people use the female characters more than the male ones there are more hair props available for the female characters than male. So if you really want to give your Poser addict something cool, get them a hair prop or two that is for both their female and male characters.

Hint: Make sure you know which characters your Poser addict has, it won't do to purchase a hair prop for V3 and then find out your Poser addict doesn't have her. There are a number of places to purchase hair and other props and models online but my favorite places are Daz 3D, Renderosity, and Runtime DNA.

Some of my favorite hair props are Dakota Hair by Littlefox for Aiko 3, Perfect Touch Hair for M3, David and The Freak, Bliss Vision Hair, and Rievel Hair for M3 to name a few.

Keep in mind that even if your Poser addict has all the hair props they want, there are texture packages that can be purchased as well. These allow the color of the hair to be changed, and sometimes even the style itself.

2. Clothing Props: Clothing props are something that many of us who are Poser addicts often have to wait until we can afford what we want. Some clothing props cost as much as $30 a piece which can make them cost prohibitive. Trust me clothing props are something that your Poser addict will adore getting for a gift, particularly if it is one they have had to wait for. Just be sure and check if they have the one you are thinking of getting them ahead of time, and remember that just like with the hair props there are texture packs for most any clothing prop. So, even if your Poser addict has the item you were thinking of, you can still purchase some texture packs for him or her.

Here are some clothing props from Daz 3D that any Poser addict would love to receive: V3 Morphing Fantasy Dress (they have one of these for each female model so you can get one for one of the other characters if need be.), M3 Hooded Cloak, V3 & SP Clothing Pack, this one is especially nice because it comes with several clothing items and works with both V3 and Stephanie Petite, M3 Tunic Pack, M3 Casual Life. There are of course hundreds of other clothing props, these are just a few that any Poser addict would love to have. The morphing fantasy dress in particular is quite expensive and is on many a Poser addict's wish list.

3. 3D Human Models: There are many 3d human models available on the market but the ones which are most used and coveted by Poser addicts are the models from Daz 3d. These include Victoria 3, Victoria 4, David, The Girl and many others. Chances are your Poser addict has V3 already as she was free for nearly a year, and M3 or Michael 3 and Aiko 3 LE are still free, so he or she probably already has them. These are the more popular models at Daz 3d and have the most support. However, many Poser addicts don't have V4 yet, and because they are lesser knowns may not have David or The Girl or Stephanie Petite. All of these 3d human models would make great gifts for your Poser addict, as with clothing and hair props be sure what your Poser addict has before purchasing any of the 3d human models. Keep in mind too that there are morph packages that your Poser addict may not have and these can purchased for them as well. Morph packages allow the Poser addict to morph the 3D human model into different looks, races, and body types.

4. There are many other types of supporting props available for the Poser addict which include buildings, animals, environments (forests etc.), and plants to name a few as well. Daz 3d is one of the largest distributors for 3d models, textures etc. although as mentioned before there are others. You will find that many of these models listed here come from Daz 3d since that is where many Poser addicts purchase from and have wish lists with.

Most online purveyors of 3D items give you a download link where you download your purchases from, but Daz 3D and Runtime DNA will burn your purchases to a CD for an extra cost. My advice is just to purchase your own blank CD's download the product to your hard drive and then burn them to a CD yourself. You will save money this way, and trust me your Poser addict will not care, they will be ecstatic that you purchased them some new toys to use in Poser!

All the memberships are very reasonably priced and that DVD extra in addition to downloading as much as you want without further cost is a very nice gift for your Poser addict indeed.
