After going to some baby showers for my friends I was very excited about having my own. There is no reason to lie here, and as many moms will know, the very best part about the baby shower was the excitement of opening gifts for my baby.
Of course little did I know, I ended up with a five year supply of bath essentials. I also received cute baby clothes but they lasted only a couple of weeks because the baby grew out of them too quick. There where some thoughtful friends who knew that the baby will grow fast and gave me clothes for the baby in 12, 18 and 24 month sizes which I got to say where the best since I actually got to enjoy them. But, the big but about that was that I also got clothes for sizes 3, 4 and 5 years old. Not to complain but who wants to keep clothes in storage for that long or actually wait for the baby to get to wear them?
A baby shower is a big deal for moms weather is a first experience for new moms or if it is a big expected relief just for the fact that the gifts that they get in the baby shower will save them a lot of money in the already pricey life step of being a new parent.
Think about it, new parents already have to pay for the delivery, crib, changing tables, and many many other essentials, why not get them gift that they will really appreciate and give them a little less thing to worry about?
Don't get me wrong, I am not telling you to go an blow a huge amount on a baby shower gift by yourself, but there are ways where you can get a new mom a gift that she actually wants or needs without expending a fortune.
Some of my ideas are:
1.- Get her a Boppy Pillow. Breast feeding is something that she will have to deal with for at least a year, and a Boppy Pillow will help her and the baby be comfortable. She will love you for getting her this and she will remember you at least every 30 minutes when her new born wakes up and her back doesn't have to hurt because she can sit straight in the rocking chair while feeding the baby.
2.- Get together with three or more friends and buy a big item like a rocker, baby swing, high chair or other big item like that. No one else will think of that and your gift will be unique and very appreciated.
3.- Little items are also good, but don't go for the obvious but think outside the common things that she is bound to get. Instead of three pairs of baby clothes, how about a wipes warmer. That little fellow will thank you when his tinny butt doesn't have to get cold in the middle of the night.
4.- By the time of the baby shower the mom will be felling very, very pregnant. So get her something to make her feel feminine or girlie again. A nice diaper bag for example. They have many models now and they are looking a lot more like hand bags. They are not that pricey but if you get another friend to share the gift with you, it will still make the mom jump up and down after opening your gift.
5.- If you don't feel like expending much, how about getting her diapers. If you don't know about sizes, get her some size ones or twos but never new born. Some babies don't even get to wear them.
6.- Baby toys, like new born soft books or cute little car seat hangers are always cute and very welcome gifts.
7.- If you want to pamper the mom, how about a pair of comfy pajamas that she can wear in the hospital during her delivery. Any pajamas work but make sure they have buttons in the front so that she can be comfortable breast feeding.
8.- A pair of nice warm sleepers are sure to be used nicely. Mostly during she is at the hospital. After having a baby the worse nobody wants to feel a cold hospital floor.
9.- Crib sheets, burp rags, burp rags and burp rags. Some babies throw up a lot and burp rags are a most for new moms that don't want to do a ton of unnecessary laundry. However, I saved a lot of my shirts from being ruined or being stained while I was at a public place but I also used at least three burp rags a day. So for some moms the more the merrier.
8.- Cute inexpensive ideas are also, baby lullaby Cd's, white noise machines, crib mobiles, baby monitors, Swaddlers, soft and fuss blankets, and more.
The sky is the limit, just think of something you would like to receive if it was your baby shower. Go to the store and instead of going straight to the shampoos and baby lotions walk around a little and you will surely find something cute at the price range you are looking for.
