Everybody gets magnets as gifts from me when holidays come around. Why? Because you can't have enough magnets, and they can stick to the fridge to hold stuff you need (like coupons, pictures, wedding announcements, etc) and won't go to waste. Ever see a house with a magnet gathering dust on the table? Nope. If they are gathering dust, at least it's on the fridge where it belongs. My dad uses magnets to adhere his med lists to the inside of his loader when he's on his way to vaccinate cows, and keeps track of supplies receipts by sticking the magnets to the side of his desk in the office.
You can make a butt load of magnets on the cheap so easily. For practical guys and gals, purchase a package of regular wooden clothespins that have the spring in them to open and close. Buy a roll of magnet tape, cut to fit on one flat side of the magnet, and peel off the sticky back, place on and Voila! Magnets that can hold a bunch of stuff in them and are great for organizing in the home and work. My dad loves em, and they were so cheap to make. You have to use a heavier magnet strip for some magnets, or purchase the round magnets and glue them in, but they work great.
For cute magnets, buy plain clothespins and paint them or cover them in glitter or fake flowers on one side, making a hodgepodge set of 3 or 6 to give as a gift. Place the magnet on the back. If you don't want to just give a magnet as a gift, clip in a couple packages of flower seed packets, a picture of you and your loved ones, or a gift card to their favorite restaurant. Everyone I've given clothespin magnets to loves them.
You can also make magnets cheap and beautiful by buying decorative glass or stones with flat backs and simply adhering magnet tape to the backs of them and giving them in gift sets of 6 or 12. They do not go unappreciated, are creative, and different from what they would expect, plus you can get all your supplies at the dollar store.
You can clip a clothespin magnet onto any other cheap, practical gift, like washcloths, teabags, a favorite candy bar, movie tickets, pet treats (perfect gift for pet lovers who have everything) earrings, a tie, anything that the person who has everything shows interest in, but the real treat will be the useful clothespin magnet that is one-of-a-kind and certainly unique.
