Gifts for Someone with Hypertension

Jennifer Kirkman
There are many great calming gifts to give a person for Christmas that have trouble controlling their hypertension.

One of the things anyone with hypertension should have is an blood pressure monitor. They have so many of these on the market that are easy to work with and will help anyone to keep track of what their blood pressure is doing from day to day. One blood pressure monitor you can buy is right on Amazon.com. It is by Omron, a HEM-670IT Wrist Blood Pressure Monitor with an Advanced Positioning Sensor in it. It runs around 60.00 on amazon.com. It is a very portable device and easy to carry around if you travel a lot and need to monitor your blood pressure often. If your wrist is anywhere between 5.25 to 8.5 inches, it will work. This machine can detect heartbeats that are irregular, has a hypertension indicator on it, and also will do the averaging for you.

A book called Reversing Hypertension by Dr. Julian Whitaker is a book that goes from the very beginning with diagnosing hypertension, the complications from hypertension, explains the action of the heart and blood pressure, causes, drugs, and more advice about vitamins in treating blood pressure. I highly recommend reading the book as it does have a wealth of information for anyone dealing with hypertension.

Another great book about hypertension by Dr. Thomas Pickering, is called Good News about High Blood Pressure: Everything You Need to Know to Take Control of Hypertension is another helpful source and makes a great gift for your loved one with high blood pressure. This book, like the other I mentioned gives concise and detailed information about high blood pressure, complications, and much information on dietary advice too. The doctor explains the effects of a low-salt diet and how it works to help the blood pressure.

Pedometers are also a nice gift for someone with hypertension. A pedometer known as Omron HJ-720ITC Pocket Pedometer with Advanced Health Management Software is an excellent choice. This pedometer measures steps, calories, and distance, along with a week history that tells you how much exercise you have completed. This is an excellent tool to encourage a person with hypertension to exercise.

The Beat High Blood Pressure Cookbook is yet another great gift idea that is full of diet friendly recipes that are lower in sodium, fat, and refined sugars. This is put out by Reader's Digest and you may order it through Amazon.com

Another great gift idea for anyone with high blood pressure is to get them a kitten. Cats lower your blood pressure, and I am not being silly by suggesting it either. Cats have a way of making you feel relaxed as you stroke their fur and pet them a lot. Studies have shown that people who have cats or a dog, were better able to lower their blood pressure more so than people who had no pets. Pets have a way of getting a person to release anxiety and stress as you interact with them. So why not consider this as a gift for thought? It may be the best thing you ever did!
