Giles Deacon Confirmed as Head of Emanuel Ungaro

Last month Jason Campbell, editor of JCReport tweeted that Giles Deacon was officially welcomed to the Emanuel Ungaro family, according to Styleite. This news remained a rumor until May 25, 2010, when Giles Deacon confirmed his appointment as the new creative director of Emanuel Ungaro. The fashion world is excited over this news, as it now seems the struggling French house has finally made a smart business move.

A Turbulent Year at Ungaro

Ungaro made some bad choices over the past year to bring life to the company once ruled by its namesake Emanuel Ungaro. Ungaro CEO Mounir Moufarrige hired Lindsay Lohan in 2009 as artistic advisor over head designer Estrella Archs with disastrous results. The duo completed one [failed] collection for spring 2010 and Estrella going solo for Fall/Winter 2011. The end result - both ladies no longer are with the design house.

Giles Deacon's Veteran Skills Brought to the Helm

Forty-year old Deacon is no stranger to French fashion with his signature line simply branded, Giles appearing at Paris Fashion Week for the past two seasons. Deacon has told Vogue UK what to expect of his Ungaro woman. "She's a super sexy, very French, sophisticated, slightly cheeky and playful woman. All the things we think of when we think of Parisian women."

Giles Bringing an Old Friend to Ungaro

Giles Deacon's creative collaborator and former flame, Katie Grand is coming to Ungaro as a consultant. Deacon is obviously happy to be bringing Katie along as well as other members of an "experienced team" with him. Dubbed the "high priestess of British fashion", Katie Grand has plenty of experience under her belt outside of working for Giles. She also is a stylist, fashion editor and editor-in-chief of Love Magazine. Katie is tapped into the celebrity scene with friends the likes of Stella McCartney and Madonna close at hand.

Emanuel Ungaro with Giles Deacon as creative director may help restore the struggling French house. Deacon has stated his creations for Emanuel Ungaro will be different from those for his own line. Will he be able to pull it off? Many think so, including myself. (At any rate many are confident it will not be a repeat of the LiLo disaster.) This fashion writer can't wait for October to view Giles Deacon's premier collection for Emanuel Ungaro.
