Gillian Anderson: Hollywood Whore

After Huge Success with the X-Files, Gillian Admits She Did it All for the Money

In a recent article, the London Telegraph's John Preston asked Gillian Anderson if she would ever return to TV some day. She screamed, "Oh, shut the f- up! Are you kidding me? My God, I don't even watch television. I don't like television. I never have liked it. The whole concept of sitting down in front of a TV feels like one of the things that's destroying society, as far as I'm concerned."

OK, she's got a point. With only a few notable exceptions, modern television has become a mindless wasteland of crap.

Be that as it may, you've got to hand it to Gillian. For nine years she worked on one of the most popular television series in history. She made $3 million in 1998 alone. This work continues to generate income for her from a major movie and a just announced sequel in the works.

And she admits that she did it all for the money. Rather than be unemployed like thousands of other actors, Gillian she took the money and bent over like a good little girl.

"I couldn't get out of it," She says. "I didn't have a choice. I had to sign a contract for five and a half years before I even went to my last audition - when I didn't even know if I'd got the part. Back then I was all innocent and I thought, "Wow, that sounds wonderful." But then, when I started, I realized I'd be in a Canadian wood working 16 hours a day for nine months a year. And the reason I stayed so long was because the only way I could get more money was to commit myself to doing it for another couple of years."

So after winning an Emmy (and four nominations), a Golden Globe (also with four nominations) and two Screen Actors Guild awards, Gillian finally breaks free from her enslavement. But after a while, she feels the tingle for more action. "I knew that I'd want to act again...Unfortunately, I ended up doing this terrible f-ing cheesy game show called 'Hollywood Squares.' It just made me want to throw up."

She may have hated it, but once again, she takes the money and does what she's told. According to the Princenton Dictionary, "someone who compromises oneself for money or other gains" is a whore.

Then again, aren't we all?

She did an amazing job in the x-files for 9 seasons. There wasn't one single scene that she didn't put her 100% or more. Her acting never let us down, when she played Scully she gave her heart and soul in that character. It's natural that after all these years she got tired and wants to do different things as she has
