'Gilligan's Island' Movie: Who Should Be Cast as Castaways?

Aida Ekberg
A 'Gilligan's Island' movie is finally in the works! So of course now the big question is: who will be cast to play the castaways? I know it's a little bit hard to get too excited about a 'Gilligan's Island' movie after other disastrous movies based on classic TV shows ('Bewitched' and 'Dukes of Hazzard' come to mind), but it's still fun to speculate on who the cast of the 'Gilligan's Island' movie will be and maybe hope that the movie will poke a little fun at some other famous TV island dwellers. So who should be cast in the 'Gilligan's Island' movie? Well, here are my thoughts on who should be cast and who has a good chance at actually being cast in the 'Gilligan's Island' movie:

Gilligan - When it comes to the cast of the 'Gilligan's Island' movie, you've got to have the perfect Gilligan. Way back when the idea of a 'Gilligan's Island' movie was first being tossed around, Michael Cera seemed like the perfect guy to don Gilligan's iconic cap. However, I also think Michael Cera's ex-costar McLovin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) also looks quite Gilligan-ish. Either way, you can't go wrong casting either of these funny guys as the most important castaway cast member of the 'Gilligan's Island' movie.

Mary Ann - Mary Ann and Ginger are two of the toughest cast members of 'Gilligan's Island' to choose, but I think either Mila Kunis or Emily Blunt would make the perfect Mary Anne; both look a bit like a young Dawn Wells, and Mila Kunis has experience wearing classic high-waisted fashions. Plus I don't think guys would mind seeing either of these cast choices in teeny-tiny shorts and belly-baring tops. Unfortunately, I believe someone a bit more boring like Jessica Biel, who is starring in another movie based on a TV show, 'The A-Team', will likely try and snag the role.

Ginger - Since they already worked together in an upcoming movie, it would be cool to see the chemistry between Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman again in 'Gilligan's Island', even though I don't see Natalie Portman as much of a funny gal (she will, however, be starring in an upcoming comedy aimed at potheads entitled 'Your Highness'). But I also wouldn't mind seeing Ginger more Marilyn Monroe-esque, and I think Scarlett Johansson would be a solid choice. However, my top pick probably has no chance at being cast, 'Mad Men' star Christina Hendricks. Just cast her in the 'Gilligan's Island' movie and the men will come. Oh yeah, the women will come, too; I've never seen so many girl crushes on an actress! Unfortunately the original casting choice for Ginger in the 'Gilligan's Island' movie was Beyonce, who should be able to pull off the diva part of being a movie star well.

The Skipper - So who to cast to watch over our little buddy in the 'Gilligan's Island' movie? Shave off the beard and dye his hair white, and I think Zach Galifianakis would make the perfect Skipper for keeping Gilligan in line. Another solid choice would be Robin Williams, although his version of the Skipper would likely cause more chaos than Gilligan. Chevy Chase would be an awesome casting choice, because he can do stern/silly really well, and he really needs a good comeback movie role. However, I can really see Jack Black or Will Ferrell being cast as the Skipper in the 'Gilligan's Island' movie, even though it seems like any movie they've been in lately makes me wish I'd get knocked out by a coconut ten minutes in.

The Professor - Being more of the straight man in the cast, the Professor in the 'Gilligan's Island' movie doesn't just need to be the logical type; he needs to be eye candy for the ladies. Mark Wahlberg would be my top choice since he's been trying his hand at comedies lately, but I could really see Bradley Cooper being cast in the role. So if he and Zack Galifianakis get cast in the 'Gilligan's Island' movie, would that mean we get to see the cast mates get high on some native plant and wake up as kings of a native tribe with no idea how they got there? I don't know, but any plot for a movie based on a campy classic TV show is possible.

The Millionaire (and his Wife) - This is one of the hardest pairings to come up with when it comes to the cast of the 'Gilligan's Island' movie. I think Bill Murray and Sharon Stone would make a cute crazy couple, but I could also see Alec Baldwin and '30 Rock' costar Jane Krakowski giving them a kooky spin (Baldwin has hoity-toity down pat, and Jane Krakowski does spoiled extremely well). Seth MacFarlane has a million-dollar voice (you can save a lot of money voicing almost every character on your 30 FOX cartoon shows), and I think he and Amy Poehler would make a great odd couple. However, with moviegoers' recent bad luck when it comes to comedy movies, the couple will probably end up being composed of Tracy Morgan and Paris Hilton.

So while I may not actually ever watch the movie until it's on TNT, it is fun to speculate on who the cast members of the upcoming 'Gilligan's Island' movie will be. So you better enjoy being able to put the word "fun" with this movie title while it lasts and sit right back and have fun coming up with your own kooky cast of castaways for the 'Gilligan's Island' movie.
