Ancient civilizations used the vitamin for cooking and medicine. The technology way back then was no where close to what it is today, but they realized that the vitamin would help prevent ailments from motion sickness to athlete's foot. It can make the pain of rheumatoid arthritis less severe. This is because ginger root has anti-inflammatory properties.Women have reported that drinking ginger tea helped them eliminate menstrual cramps.
Unknown to a lot of people is the fact that ginger root is not classified as a root but as an underground stem. The root or stem is harvested year round just like the hawthorne berry. After about five months of growth the first of the harvest is used to create candied ginger and ginger syrup. Because the longer ginger is in the ground the spicier and hotter it becomes. This is the reason the later harvested is sold as fresh ginger.
Ginger cannot be grown every where, because it requires a special type of soil. Most ginger is grown commercially. This is due to high demand, because it has numerous useful purposes. Ginger is one of the best vitamin there is. It is used to spice up food and to heal certain ailments.
You may know that many grocery stores have fresh ginger in their produce department. It has so many uses from spicing up cookies and bread to spicing up jelly and jam. If you are shopping for ginger root, you will want to be sure that the gnarly fist like bulb is smooth, hard to the touch, and heavy. If the ginger is not heavy it will not be as good.
Because of its many uses it is good to have on hand. As mentioned previously, it helps treat common ailments, it can be used in numerous recipes, and some up scale restaurants use it as a dressing on salads. Ginger root is one of the best selling items on the market because it has so many healthy uses and is used in so many different recipes.
