Ginuwine Elgin Album Review

The Reviewer
It has been fifteen years since R&B crooner Ginuwine dropped his first album Ginuwine...the Bachelor. His last album 2009's A Man's Thoughts spawned the hit single Last Chance. Now he is back on the scene with his seventh solo album Elgin. Will Ginuwine be able to once again release a solid album with Elgin?

The first single off of Elgin is What Could Have Been. The track sounds very similar to Last Chance. The song is a very solid mid-tempo R&B track. The song has definitely succeeded at urban radio. Ginuwine delivers a solid vocal as well on the track.

The second single is the Tank written and produced Heaven. The song is another well delivered mid-tempo track. The song sounds like it would have fit perfect on Tank's last album Now or Never.

Legendary songwriter Diane Warren penned How Does Your Heart Forget. The song is well written and produced. Unfortunately, Ginuwine does not come through with his best vocal delivery on the track.

On Batteries Ginuwine is joined by Trina. The song is one of the few club tracks on the album. The song definitely has single potential and could impact radio in a major way.

Why We're Fighting is another solid mid-tempo track. The song has the ability to be yet another single off of this album.

First Time is another track that has definite single potential. The track is just well written and delivered. The instrumentation definitely adds to the track.

The mid-tempo track Body is not one of the better tracks on the album. The song just lacks the appeal of the rest of the album.

Kidnapped is more up-tempo than most of the album. The song is pretty solid but not single material.

Frozen seems like a 2011 version of Omarion's Entourage. The song does not have the appeal of Entourage, but it is still a very solid track.

Break is another track written by Diane Warren. The song definitely fits Ginuwine better than the other Diane Warren track and Ginuwine delivers one of his strongest vocal performances on it.

Busy is yet another mid-tempo track. The song features very strong instrumental and interesting vocal arrangement.

Overall Elgin is a nice slice of adult contemporary R&B heaven. The songs are age and demographic appropriate for the most part. Ginuwine also delivers strong vocal performance and emotional connection. Overall Elgin gets 7.5 out of 10. If you are a fan of Ginuwine make sure you pick up Elgin which is in stores now.
