Personally I think that it is a little bit of both. I think that girls are more aggressive today. I'm not sure why that is but I do have some theories. One of them are that girls are all around more independent and aggressive in all aspects of life. Girls are no longer taught to give in to another persons will or just be demure and soft spoken. Just the opposite! As a matter of fact we are constantly telling girls to stand up for themselves, compete, be independent, etc... I'm sure that just a couple of generations ago girls were taught to be very proper and lady like. Those days are gone, girls are pushed to do everything that boys do, compete in school, be just as aggressive in sports and later on be just as aggressive in the career field. So how can we possibly expect our girls to be aggressive in all other aspects of their lives and then back down to another girl. Let's face it, with girls mentally on the same aggression level as boys they are not going to back down when confronted or pushed by another girl.
Another aspect of this is that parents are just not as strict as they used to be. We may think we are being strict, but just go ask your grandmother how things were in her childhood and I guarantee that you will get a different story. People change as time changes and our kids seem to have a sense of entitlement and we let them get away with it and even encourage it by giving them everything they want. So another example of why girls may get aggressive. They are used to getting what they want and when they want it.
And finally as I said I think we are also just seeing more of girls fighting because of technology. Everywhere you turn is a cell phone with video or a camera with video, and surveillance cameras are everywhere. Big brother is definitely watching.
So my conclusion is basically that girls are changing and becoming more aggressive because that is the world that they live in. Also the world they live in is filled with technology so we get to see more of those cat fights!
