Girl Scout Cookies

Julie Wimmer
If you are living under that rock, then you have not heard that Girl Scouts Troops are selling Girl Scout Cookies this time of year. And this, of course is also the time of year when you have made your resolution to lose weight or are looking at bathing suits for Spring Break, when these cute girls in Girl Scouts uniforms walk the neighborhoods or stand outside of your favorite stores selling these cookies. But hey, you have time to lose weight for summer clothes, so why not buy some of these fun cookies!

Below find a description of what kinds of cookies the girls are selling this year in Southern New Jersey:

THIN MINTS

A favorite amongst many customers. A crunchy chocolate wafer covered in chocolate and a splash of mint.

CARAMEL deLITES

These used to be called "Samoa's" and they are also very popular. They are round cookies, with a hole in the center, coated with caramel, chocolate stripes and coconut.

PEANUT BUTTER PATTIES

Delicious treats, these are vanilla wafers, topped with peanut-butter and then surrounded by a chocolate coating.

PEANUT BUTTER SANDWICHES

They are exactly what they sounds like, creamy peanut butter in between two oatmeal cookies.

THANKS A LOT

My son LOVES these. They are shortbread cookies drenched, on one side, with fudge. Each cookie says "Thank you" in different languages.

SHORT BREAD

Shortbread cookies are great with a cup of coffee or tea. Simple cookies with a delicious, buttery taste.

LEMONADES

These are similar to the Thanks A Lot except the shortbread cookie is coated with lemon icing instead of chocolate.

SHOUT OUTS

This is a new cookie this year that we taste tested as a troop. I would describe it as a ginger snap without the snap combined with a molasses cookie that does not have a strong molasses taste. Also good with a hot beverage.

So if you see a Girl Scout come to your door, or standing in front of your favorite store, buy a box! The money each troop makes goes towards trips they can take, charities they can help out and so much more!

Happy buying!
Girl Scout Cookies in Burlington County in Southern New Jersey go for $3.50 a box.
