Girl Scouts Cut Some Girl Scout Cookie Types: Which Six Cookies Stay

Candice W.
Girl Scout cookie season is underway in many parts of the country. And with this came a decision for some Girl Scout councils to cut some of the Girl Scout cookie types from the sales lineup. So which types stay and which ones go? Many are hopeful their favorite cookies won't get cut.

Some Girl Scout councils are just offering six of the cookie types to save on costs. They're calling it the Super Six. They hope to increase sales by focusing on just those six of the Girl Scout cookie types.

The Super Six. The six Girl Scout Cookies that will stay are Thin Mints, Do-Si-Dos, Trefoils, Samoas, also known as Caramel deLites, Lemon Chalet Cremes and Tagalongs, also known as Peanut Butter Patties. So there you have it. The list of the classic cookies. If your favorites are in the Super Six lineup, rejoice.

Girl Scout Cookie Cuts. There may be some that will be sad to see some flavors cut. Most of these are varieties added in recent years. Most did not perform as well as the classics. The Girl Scout Cookie types that will be cut include Dulce de Leche, Thank U Berry Munch, Shout Outs! and Lemonades.

Only time will tell-- and another Girl Scout cookie sales season-- if the plan to cut back on varieties will save the councils money. The sales are the big fundraiser for the Girl Scouts of the USA bringing more than $714 million annually, according to the Wall Street Journal. The most popular cookies bring in about 77 percent of the sales.

The success of the sales is important for councils. The revenue accounts for about 66 percent of the council's budgets each year.

Even the Girl Scouts have been impacted by the economy. But take solace in knowing the classics are still around no matter where you live in the country.

So now you've got the Girl Scout Super Six lineup, you'll be ready to place your order when a brownie, junior or cadette comes knocking with her order form.
