Girlfriend

David Carr
Ok, I'll admit that I really want a girlfriend
Even though it's not the manly thing to do
I'll come clean and fess up to the fact
That I really wish my girlfriend was you...

You're the one that I always seem to think about
In the day or in the middle of the night
I come unglued with the issues that surround me
And yet you really seem to make things right

I'm ok with being alone
I'll survive without my cellular phone
Complications seem to always arise
And you can see the sadness in my eyes

I've tried all the tricks and the games people play
To make a hopeless romantic dream come true
I guess I'm left with nothing more to say
Except I wish that my girlfriend was you...

I admit that I want someone to talk to
When the day goes particularly bad
And I confess I have already practiced
Things to say if I meet your dad

I'm a fool and it's hard to explain
How this feeling of joy really drives me insane
Words left unspoken fall to the floor
As you whisper hello as you walk out the door

Gonna tell you 'bout my feelings one day
And I know that it's the right thing to do
I'm gonna be a man and let you know
That I really wish my girlfriend was you...
