Girlicious Review of the Group's Self-Titled Album
Do the Girls Have What it Takes to Top the Charts?
The first single off of Girlicious is the infectious Jazze Pha produced Like Me. The song is incredibly catchy, well produced and well written. The song also shows off the girls' vocal ability as they hold their own on the track.
The second single is Stupid Stuff. The song is not as catchy as the first single. The track just seems forced and out of place.
The third single is The Runners produced Baby Doll. It is nice to see The Runners turn their focus to R&B with tracks on Day 26's and Danity Kane's latest albums. This track is a song choice for a third single and well produced and written.
Liar Liar teams Girlicious with Flo-Rida. Flo-Rida does what he does best, deliver an energetic verse. The song just does not live up to the frantic pace set by Flo-Rida until his second verse.
Jonathan "J.R." Rotem produces the Sean Kingston featured track Still In Love. The song sounds like pretty much every other Sean Kingston track; which means the song will be a success.
I.O.U.1. features Canadian reggae star Kardinal Offishall. The song is another solid up-tempo track. Kardinal Offishall delivers a solid verse and the song features interesting melodic points.
Save The World is a collaboration between Dre & Vidal and Rico Love. The song is solid yet not one of the better tracks on the album and ultimately forgettable.
Already Gone is another The Runners produced track. The song is one of the best tracks on the whole album and is an extremely solid mid-tempo cut. The song has a Timbaland inspired vibe to it.
Do About It is a Madd Scientist produced and Knightwritaz written track. The song has an Off The Wall Michael Jackson vibe to it brought to 2008. The song is interesting and different.
My Boo is another solid mid-tempo track. The song has definite single appeal to it with its Asian inspired influence.
Here I Am is one of the few ballads on the album. The song is uplifting and moving melodically and is very reminiscent of power ballads from 1980's hair bands.
The Way We Were is a reworking of the Barbara Streisand hit single and Academy Award winning song from the movie The Way We Were. The song is definitely different than Streisand's version, however the song works.
Overall Girlicious deliver on their promise to be a younger and hipper version of The Pussy Cat Dolls. Their album delivers some solid tracks. Overall Girlicious gets 7.5 out of 10. If you are a fan of Girlicious make sure you pick up their self titled album Girlicious when it is available in stores on September 29th.
