The 80's were great times, fondly remembered by those of us that lived and experienced them. Artists that made it big in that era have gone on to maintain a successful career or make a winning comeback. Movies of the 80's were classic. Who will ever forget Space Balls, ET, Police Academy, Revenge of the Nerds, and Porky's? That is just a small list of names that come to mind when you think of movies during this decade.

In childhood memories, Girls Just Want to Have Fun is one of the classical 80's films I will always remember. Made in 1985, Girls Just Want to Have Fun stars Sarah Jessica Parker and Helen Hunt when they were younger.

The premise of Girls Just Want to Have Fun is Janey (Sarah) enjoys dancing. Her strict military regimented father is against this. Janey makes friends with Lynne Stone (Helen). Lynne is much wilder and crazier than Janey. Janey truly tries to the good girl to her father's wishes. The allure of dancing proves to hard to resist.

Soon with the encouragement of Lynne, Janey finds herself practicing for the dance contest with her assigned partner. This movie tells a good, feel good story of teenage life in the 80's. When the dance shows and contests were popular. There is some humor and a storyline involving a father that does not approve of the activity. The music is also very 80's with one of the key songs being the one it borrows the title from, Girls Just Want to Have Fun recorded by Cyndi Lauper.
