Girls Kissing Each Other in the Movies: Hot or Not?

Rebecca Bardelli

Fox News gets steamy while reporting on Amanda Seyfried and Megan Fox, who have an intense kissing scene in the 2009 movie "Jennifer's Body." The movie was an epic failure as it only made $16,195,523 (USA). Opening weekend produced $13,020,565 which barely covered the $11 million it cost to make the movie.

"I can't believe nobody wanted to see Megan Fox and me hitting it," Seyfried said regarding the kissing scene in the movie. Is it hot or is it not when girls kiss each other in the movies? Let's take a look at some other girl kissing movies and attempt to answer at that question.

What others movies show girls kissing without the movie being a bust? I can think of several:

"Cruel Intentions"

In "Cruel Intentions" Selma Blair gets a kissing lesson from Sarah Michelle Gellar. Blair played Cecile Caldwell while Gellar played the cruel Kathryn Merteuil. "Cruel Intentions" brought in a total of $75,902,208 (worldwide).

"Wild Things"

In "Wild Things," the young and wild Neve Campbell and Denise Richards make up with a kiss, hair soaking wet in a pool. Two beautiful girls wearing swimsuits makes for a hot kissing scene. Campbell played Suzie while Richards played Kelly. "Wild Things" made a gross amount of $29,753,944 (USA).

What other girl kissing movies were a bust? I can think of some of those as well. If you haven't heard of them it is because they didn't do so well.

"Head in the Clouds"

"Head in the Clouds" is a romantic drama set in Paris and Spain. Charlize Theron and Penelope Cruz put on a brief yet intense scene that ends with blood dripping from both their lips. This movie sounds captivating, yet it only made $3,510,605 (worldwide).

"Heavenly Creatures"

"Heavenly Creatures" is a 1994 movie about two young girls who experience an intense fantasy life. It is classified as a crime, drama and fantasy. Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey star in this movie and are the two heavenly, kissing creatures. This movie only brought in $3,049,135 (USA).

Another girl kissing scene worth mentioning, although it is a quick peck, is the one between Drew Barrymore and Sara Gilbert in "Poison Ivy." I find this interesting since Gilbert is now a lesbian who just broke up with her lover, Allison Adler, after being together for 10 years.

So, are girls kissing each other in the movies hot? It looks as though it depends on the movie, overall plot and actresses. "Wild Things" and "Cruel Intentions" were two movies that did well. I believe it could be because both had a great cast of actors and actresses, brief kissing scenes and an overall good theme. "Wild Things" starred Kevin Bacon and Matt Dillon in addition to Campbell and Richards. "Cruel Intentions" starred Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe in addition to Blair and Gellar.

I finally just watched Jennifer's Body tonight. I hadn't seen it before because my wife and I don't usually watch horror movies. But I decided to give Amanda and Megan a chance. It wasn't worth the time spent watching it!

I think it's only a big deal if a big deal is made out of it.

I don't want to see girls kissing girls or guys kissing guys. It's a real turn off.

"Wild Things" was one of my favorite movies in the 90's, and not because of the two girls kissing. I had never heard of "Jennifer's Body" until now, so it's possible the movie was poorly marketed or the stars from the film were having some publicity issues and no one wanted to support a movie they were in. I think homosexuality among women has kinda lost it's taboo edge... so people might not be interested in seeing a film just because two attractive women are "hitting it".

If it's tastefully done yes lol.

Anything that #$%$ off FOX has to be worth a try!But I think it all depends on the movie and the actors doing the kissing and the story.
