Girl's Missing Dog's Head Delivered to Her Door

A "special Delivery" that Will Twist and Tug at Your Stomach

Andrew Berry
Most people in their lifetime have had a dog, or some other sort of pet they can confidently call their companion and their best friend. For Crystal Brown of St. Paul, Minnesota, it was no different with her dog named "Chevy". However, Chevy went missing a month ago after it wandered away from the house. From then on, day in and day out, Crystal Brown, age 17, put up flyers, called and visited the dog shelter, and even went door to door in search of information regarding her lost dog, Chevy.

One day there was a package wrapped as a gift left at Crystal Brown's house with a note saying "Congratulations", as well as a pack of batteries attached to the top of the package. When the gift-wrapped package was opened by Crystal Brown she screamed in horror when she saw the severed head of her dog, Chevy, looking right at her from inside of the box. Also in the box was some Valentines Day candy.

Crystal Brown's grandma, whom originally recieved the gift-wrapped box had this to say:

"She was just hysterical," said Crystal's grandmother, Shirley Brown. "She was screaming. She said, 'Grandma, it's my dog's head!"

Shirley Brown said that it cannot be, most likely due to the shock of the situation at hand.

The incident was so random and isolated that authorities say there was no true known motive in the case at this time. Homicide investigators are currently looking into the incident due to its "implied" terrorist-like appearance, which was noted by St. Paul Sgt. Jim Gray. The Humane Society of the United States is offering a reward up to $2,500 for any information leading to an arrest of conviction, which was said last Wednesday.

Dale Bartlett, the Humane Society of the United States had this to say about the situation regarding Chevy: "This was extraordinarily heinous". I deal with hundreds and hundreds of cruelty cases each year. When I read about this case, it took my breath away. It's horrible."

Crystal Brown then talked to the Star Tribune of Minneapolis,"I feel empty. I couldn't talk to anyone. He was my dog. It was just me and him. ... I told him everything and he never shared any of my secrets."

It is obvious that the criminal in this case is a sick and twisted individual. Anyone who harms a domesticated animal, or any animal for that matter, without the intention of bettering their own life for the means of survival, is twisted. Teenagers whom harm defenseless animals also have a high rate of becoming serial killers.

Chevy was a 4 year-old Australian shepherd-mix. Crystal Brown now has a new puppy whom she has named "Diesel".
"Hopefully, he'll be my best friend," Crystal said, talking about Diesel.

Thats hiiiilarious, I wish I had thought of something that clever, its to bad he's probably in more trouble for doing that, than he would be if he pulled her abortion out of the trash and gift wrapped it for her

people who kill innocent animals in this fashion deserves no better than death. they are likely to go for bigger prey (namely other people) later on. i say cut this guys P.. off and shove it in his mouth with a bow tied to it. see how he likes that.

Richelle- "Cruelty to animals (related to "zoosadism"). Many children may be cruel to animals, such as pulling the legs off spiders, but future serial killers often kill larger animals, like dogs and cats, and frequently for their solitary enjoyment rather than to impress peers." (Wikipedia, search "Serial Killers". Also it is the "MacDonald Triad", not the 'McDonald Triad'.

Your comment about teenagers who harm animals having a "high rate of becoming serial killers" is incorrect. Torturing animals is one component of the 'mcdonald triad' but is not necessarliy indicative of future serial killer behavior in itself.

    OMG That is horrible

Thank you all for the compliments on my reporting. I was personally horrified when I read this story, and I felt incredibly bad for Crystal Brown as well. I have lost multiple pets, but losing one in this matter must amplify the negative emotions correlated with the loss.

Lisa Stephenson- They caught the guy? They said there was no motive, although I consider someone being an ex somewhat of a motive depending on how the break-up was done.

Since the animal was domestic, I think it MAY be a felony, if I am remembering correctly.

That is just sick. Good reporting, but horrible story. :(

  • Lisa Stephenson3/26/2007

That was such a horrible story when I heard about it. What's even worse is the guy they caught was her scorned ex-boyfriend. How sick do you have to be to tie a defenseless animal down while you take a chainsaw to it's head.
