Girls Outdid the Men on 'American Idol' Last Night

Last night the girls sing on the "American Idol" stage. Ta-Tynisa Wilson attempted to sing Rihanna's "Only Girl", which she completely did an injustice to. The song was much more than she could vocally perform and swallowed her up when she was only trying to open the show with something more today.

Naima Adedapo on the other hand took a more jazzy approach to "Summertime" which is a song that Fantasia did exceptionally well and can never be done in my opinion better.

Rachel Zevita sung Fiona Apple's song "Criminal" as a more Broadway rendition and with a attitude that left many fans probably wishing she had done better.

Karen Rodriguez did a Mariah Carey's "Hero" in both English and Spanish. The song was a good rendition but not over the top, however it left Lopez happy that she did it with her own flavor.

A stand out was Lauren Turner because she did Etta James's number "Seven Day Fool" and rocked the house with her range and Midler attitude. Her vocal stylings are blue like and soulful and in my opinion she should go far in the competition.

Ashthon Jones may have some swagger and a great stage presence but she has a lot to learn about humility. She tried to sing Monica's "Love All Over Me" but it wasn't spectacular and it said in no certain terms she considers herself a diva and that could be her downfall.

A truly sad performance was that of Julie Zorrilla who did Kelly Clarkson's "Breakaway" and showed that she doesn't have the range or presence that everyone thought she had. Randy thought it was pretty much a sad cover song.

Haley Reinhart's performed Alicia Key's "Fallin'" and it was sultry and hot but in the end was it too hot for the television audience. I liked it alright but she didn't have to dip and move she would have been just as sultry standing still.

Thia Megia the youngest girl was better than I have really ever seen any young contestant in seasons past. She really did the show "Fame" justice by singing this great ballad "Out Here On MY Own".

Lauren Alaina's was another young one with a powerful voice who showed a lot of stage presence. She sung "Turn on the Radio," Randy even said she was a cross between Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood which in my opinion says it all.

The top spot however in my opinion was Pia Toscano rendition of "I'll Stand By You" that was outstanding, polished and breathtakingly beautiful. It was perfect.

Basically all of the girls including Kendra Chantelle's "Impossible" was really thought out performances and in my view good starts to all their runs on "American Idol". The only two girls that I think could leave based on last night show was Julie Zorrilla and Ta-Tynisa Wilson and of those two it would be a toss up.

I pray that the guys can come back next week with better performances or the girls have it this year for sure. They all have talent and stamina to blow the doors off of most of the men. Out of four men that stood out the girls doubled that number in outstanding performances.
