Girls & Their Horses

Majormom
My daughter owns a beautiful miniature horse named Jogger. She has this unusual name because as a young filly she would jog around the farm following who ever was outside. Jogger stands about 35" at her withers, is silver bay in color, her white mane is very long, and her tail touches the ground.

It seems deep in the heart of every girl lurks the desire to give love and be loved back by a horse. When my daughter was little she played with her toy horses and now she gets Jogger out in the yard and plays horse games with her. There are times when the mini comes up on the front porch and peeks in the door. I have also found her drinking water from the garden pond!

This week Jogger has embraced autumn with great enthusiasm. Yesterday she was chasing a turkey in her pasture and later started running around the house as fast as she could about a dozen times. Her mane was flying, tail held high and I do believe we saw a big happy grin on her face.

She knows that in the evening my daughter will have a treat for her when she comes into the barn. Jogger likes a lot of different fruit and grains but her favorite is grapes and she becomes a beggar wanting more. We all love this little horse.

I have watched as the two of them have blended their relationship into one of love and trust. Jogger has brought so much joy to my daughter's life. She still longs for the horse that she can ride off into the sunset with and someday that will happen.

Last year my daughter and husband walked in the Christmas parade with Jogger. We took a velvet tree skirt and attached lights to it. She put that on the horses back with saddle bags full of candy to pass out along the route. Her little horse was a big hit with everyone.

Her daddy is taking her to a Parelli horse show for two days. They will get to spend time together doing the very thing that makes her heart beat and her eyes sparkle. Her dream is to be a horse trainer using the Parelli Natural Horsemanship method. We have always encouraged our kids to reach for their dreams. Hers will take her out of state for college, hmm I wonder if she will be embarrassed that her daddy will be going with her!
