I recently wrote about Guantanamo Bay and heard from the soft hearted nitwits of the left wing who assured me I was full of shit. I quoted extensively from an article written by Mr. Peter Worthington, who is not only a journalist but a veteran himself. I will do so in this article also and hopefully the pinheads who continue to swallow the Democratic pap will see that it is just that, pap. Crap if you really want to get into it.
I've never been to Gitmo and I suspect most Canadians or Americans haven't either. I rely, as most of you do, on what is reported in the papers. I don't know Mr. Worthington either for that matter, but I've read enough of his stuff to trust him. In my estimation, if you can't trust a war vet to tell you what is wrong with a POW system, who can you trust? Mr. W is a conservative, make no mistake about it, but he is also honest enough to call a spade a spade. Don't take my word for it, look him up, read his articles, and make up your own mind.
My first point is that the prison at Guantanamo is not bound by the rules of the Geneva Convention. True, up to a point. The detainees there were not soldiers in any recognized army or fighting force and so were not due the civilities afforded any captured enemy combatant. The US Supreme Court ruled that they should be treated as POW's. I imagine they are supposed to lower their standards now. "Al-Qaida training directs those captured to immediately make accusations of torture and inhumanity, since that induces guilt feelings and influences the media." writes Mr. W. This is the crap the Democrats hang their hat on. Let's not let facts get in the way of what we want people to believe. He goes on to say, "This has intensified now that the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that the Geneva Convention must apply to Guantanamo detainees."
Gee, let's see the Dems argue with that. Their precious detainees are now protected under the rules of the Geneva Convention. So how could there possibly be any torture? It isn't allowed. The pin heads will tell you that it still goes on. I outlined the 'torture' these nuts endure in my earlier post and so see no need to go over old ground. Mr. W goes on to say, "the United States should withdraw from the Geneva Conventions, which no longer hold the relevance they once did. Canada, Britain and Australia should also abandon the conventions since they aren't necessary and it's not our policy to torture or mistreat." Are the Dems saying that it is policy to torture and/or mistreat prisoners?
I had a comment on my previous article asking me if I knew what the detainees went through before they were released. I won't go through the weight gain each of them experienced again, but a telling tale is of one 13-year-old detainee who was "repatriated to Afghanistan after two years, and told the BBC he was sorry to leave Gitmo as he'd learned to read and write there - the only schooling he'd ever had." A lone example, I confess, but like I said before, I've never been to Guantanamo and I doubt the nitwit who wrote me has been either. Like most of my detractors, this left-wing nut presumes a lot of things without having anything to back him up. I will take the word of a paid journalist, Democratic or Republican, before I believe what someone who dresses up as Captain Fantastic says.
A good case in point is that of Mr. Omar Khadr. It seems Omar was in a compound surrounded by US Special Forces. After an air strike, with the Forces believing that everyone inside had been killed, Sgt. Chris Speer led a squad into the compound. Omar, who had been hiding, leapt out and hurled a grenade that killed Speer and wounded three others. He ended up going down after being shot three times. He was attended to by Sgt. Layne Morris, one of those wounded by Omar's grenade. If Morris had killed Omar then and there, the Dems might have a point. But he didn't. Wounded himself, Morris took care of dear, sweet, precious Omar. And Omar subsequently ended up in Gitmo. Once there, he brazenly said he was "boycotting these procedures until I be treated humanely and fair." Poor little Omar. Even his lawyers said his conditions of confinement were humane. Sorry, I don't know if the lawyers were Dems or Reps.
Omar's daddy is Ahmed Said Khadr who came to Canada from Egypt in 1977. He is believed to be a founding member and financier for al-Qaida, and personal friend of Osama bin Laden. Ahmed was charged in a lethal bomb attack on the Egyptian embassy in Pakistan in the mid 1990s, but was freed on the request of then-PM Jean Chretien on grounds that he was an innocent Canadian. Mr. W writes, "Khadr was killed in a Pakistani ambush in 2002. Khadr's 11- year-old son, Karim, was paralyzed from the waist down in that shootout and was brought back to Canada by his mother for medical treatment." He goes on to say that "Ahmed's wife, Maha and his daughter Zaynab have given video interviews to the effect that they feel America "deserved 9/11." (By now, I think the Dems are ripping their hair out. But if what Mr. W says is so wrong, why can't they contradict him?) "Zaynab has said she wishes she had "the guts" to be a suicide bomber, and they are proud that Ahmed "died as a martyr." And the Dems will defend this viewpoint with their dying breath. Give your head a shake. Zaynab is accused of running an al-Qaida training camp in Afghanistan with her brother Abdullah. And the Dems think 9/11 will never happen again. They might be right. As long as you have someone like Bush in the White House. Lord knows Clinton didn't have the balls. (Well except for that Monica incident, but we won't go there)
Omar seems thoroughly indoctrinated into terrorism by his family. If found guilty, Khadr's lawyers will request his sentence be served in Canada, since the U.S. is not seeking the death penalty. Why not let him serve his sentence in Canada? Hell, the US gave us a pervert a little while ago, why not a terrorist? And for you Dems out there, I would have asked for the death penalty. But you probably think the lad can be 'rehabilitated'. Yeah, sure. Omar's life is now short-circuited before it really began. What a waste, and all thanks to the malign influence of Osama bin Laden and Omar's own al-Qaida family.
At Guantanamo, where 432 Taliban and al-Qaida core leaders are still confined, American custodial staff, military police, guards, trained interrogators, FBI, psychologists and assorted experts seeking information, are severely hampered by humane restrictions that detainees exploit. Mr. W writes, "The Americans at Guantanamo are on the front line against terrorism, just as soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan are. Both are hobbled by limitations and public relations concerns that make success difficult." He goes on to say, "As a people, we in the West tend to be obsessed with winning the "hearts and minds" of those we fight - and of those on whose behalf we are fighting in Afghanistan and Iraq." While it's relatively easy to win hearts and minds of civilians and non-combatants, it is virtually impossible to do so with terrorists, or those indoctrinated and eager to blow themselves up in order to kill infidels. As Mr. W says, "To paraphrase what was once said of Turks: "You can't defeat terrorists, you can only kill them." And the Dems just don't seem to get this. They ask for dates as to when the war will be over. Never mind that if such a date is given and the terrorists learn of it, they will just put down their arms, wait until the big brouhaha is over and start up all over again. Sometimes you have to wage war in order to have peace. The Dems just don't seem to get this fact.
Chew on that for a while, and if you have any INTELLIGENT rejoinders feel free to post them.

Post a CommentS L, I think he said all he has to say (ad infinitum) on the other article. Or maybe he missed the part where I told him to read all the articles. Typical.
Excellent article, as always! I can see why "Captain Goofball" didn't have anything to say this time.
Thanks again Manda. You've got me blushing now.
Thanks Youranter, but honestly you have a rare gift of speaking the truth with both accuracy and passion.... I really love to read your work. It's a pleasure.
Thank you Manda. I hope you keep reading and writing. You come highly recommended and I take your praise as a high compliment.
Very well written and enlightening. I enjoy your work Youranter.
Noted, and I think I addressed that issue. I agree that what went on there was inexcusable, but on the other hand, it wasn't torture. I can't remember hearing about the beheaders giving their captives Bibles, lawyers or Filet o' Fish sandwiches. Whippings, beatings and electrical prods to the genitals come to mind. I don't think they do that at Gitmo.
