Named as Executive Director for the State of South Carolina is Ryan Meerstein. Mr. Meerstein has worked through several election cycles in a variety of capacities. Most recently, he worked for the Republican National Committee as the Director of Political Education during the 2006 election cycle. During the prior campaign cycle in 2004, Mr. Meerstein worked in Central Ohio as the RNC Victory Field Director. He also has experience in working on the successful campaign of Tennessee Senator Bob Corker.
The first Field Director for South Carolina named by the Giuliani campaign is Matthew Nichols. Mr. Nichols has experience in working on several Congressional campaigns throughout the United States. A graduate of Louisiana State University, he is also the former Executive Director of the Young Republican Leadership Fund in Washington, D.C.
The next Field Director for South Carolina named by the Giuliani campaign is Chuck Poplstein. Mr. Poplstein also brings campaign experience to the Giuliani team, having served on the Missouri Victory staff in 2006. Following that election cycle, he began work as a legislative liaison for the Missouri Department of Higher Education.
The final Field Director for South Carolina named at this time by the Giuliani campaign is Pete Stevenson. A current doctoral student at the University of Virginia, Mr. Stevenson is on hiatus with his studies as the campaign progresses.
The announced staff will compliment the South Carolina Regional Campaign Chairs that were announced in a press release on June 25th. The Giuliani campaign split the state of South Carolina into four regions prior to announcing state campaign representatives. In the Upstate Region, former South Carolina Secretary of State Jim Miles was appointed. In the Midlands Region, former State Representative Joyce Hearn will lead efforts. In the Lowcountry Region, Arthur Ravenel, Jr. will provide leadership. Mr. Ravenel is a former U.S. Representative, former State Senator, and former State Representative; he currently serves on the Charleston Country School Board. In the Pee Dee Region of South Carolina, Mark Kelley and Deanna Cochran were announced as Co-Chairs. Mr. Kelley is a former State Representative. Ms. Cochran is a former South Carolina Republican Party Treasurer.
The leadership in South Carolina is rounded out by State Chairman Barry Wynn, whose appointment was announced in a June 20th press release. Mr. Wynn is a former Chairman of the South Carolina GOP and a graduate of the Citadel. He worked on the campaigns of both George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush. In the latest press release regarding South Carolina's leadership on July 17th, Mr. Wynn remarked that, "We have a strong team in place, and a great leader in Mayor Rudy Giuliani that we are all proud to work for."
More field staff will be announced in the upcoming weeks and months.
