Give AC Income to Haiti, Together it Adds Up

I'm going to send everything I earn from my Associated Content articles to Haiti Relief, for the next year. I'm inviting my fellow writers to do the same.

Now, I am still a beginner compared to many of the more prolific AC contributors, so my AC income alone doesn't amount to much. But gathered together with the contributions of many others, we can help make a difference. Now I'm not suggesting that everyone give a whole year's income, maybe a months worth, or 6 months is something you could afford.

Those of you with millions of pages read, you may scoff at such and effort, but I hope you'll send something to the relief effort too. Further, I hope everyone will shun the reprehensible few who continue to blame Haiti's plight on evil, curses, voodoo, or whatever. Now is not the time for grandstanding. This is the time for generosity.

And just to kick this off, I'm going to "Pay it Forward" with a ten-dollar check to Oxfam, one of the most respected international relief organizations. You pick the agency that is the best fit for you. If you have a suggestion of another relief agency, why not post it in a comment below?

Next I'm going to suggest to AC that they take this on as a project, and maybe streamline the giving, so that writers could use a shortcut to forward their AC Paypal payments to a favorite charity, to help Haiti. I've been impressed by the sheer volume of articles that my fellow Associated Content contributors have written on the earthquake and its aftermath. Now I hope others will join me in a humble community-wide effort to help our neighbors who are in dire need.

I'm feeling very guilty now, as I write this last paragraph. I submitted this article yesterday, trying to keep it brief, and get it posted ASAP so perhaps it would have some effect sooner. However I did not hit the 350-word minimum, and an editor kicked it back. So now Haitians have suffered another 24 hours, and I am re-submitting this appeal to my fellow writers.

You can feel good already, because by reading this article you have donated a fraction of a cent that I will collect and forward to Oxfam. In fact I am resolved to write more, and better articles this year for the precise reason that it will allow me to send more to our suffering neighbors in Haiti.
