Give to Charity Free-- Without Ever Leaving Your Computer

Sloane Reed
Giving back to those less fortunate is something we all want to do. Very few of us actually have the time to give or the money to donate. However, that does not mean you can't make a difference. There are so many websites out there that enable you to make this world a better place simply by clicking your mouse. We all spend time on our computers daily, so why not take a few extra minutes to do some good?

http://www.thehungersite.com

My personal favorite is The Hunger Site. Sponsors pay for food every time you click on the button at the top of the page. From the Hunger Site you can also visit the Breast Cancer Site, Child Health Site, Literacy Site, Rainforest Site, and Animal Rescue Site. All of these work on the same general principle when your clicks equal assistance for worthy causes.

http://www.goodsearch.com

Another site I really enjoy is GoodSearch. It is a search engine, much like Google or Yahoo. What makes this different is that you choose the charity of your choice and anytime you make a search, it gives your organization a small donation.

http://www.freerice.com

Free Rice is an excellent choice. It is a word challenge game, perfect for those who are preparing for the SAT or just looking to enhance their vocabulary. For every word you guess correctly 20 grains of rice are given to the United Nation's World Food Program. But be warned: this game gets highly addictive.

http://www.facebook.com

What are some other ways you can help without spending a dime? Use your Facebook and MySpace pages to their fullest potential. Facebook has an application your can install that allows people to see your "causes." This is a great way to show the world what matters to you and gives them a way to get more information if it is something that interests them too.

http://www.myspace.com

Perhaps more beneficial than Facebook is what can be done with your MySpace page. MySpace offers users more freedom to customize the graphics and layouts of their pages. You can easily place a banner on your profile linking people directly to the official website of whatever cause[s] you choose. Furthermore, you can send them a friend request if they have a MySpace page and get the word out that way.

A particular favorite MySpace of mine is America's Most Wanted. They send out daily updates regarding Amber Alerts for missing children and other updates regarding dangerous fugitives. It takes no time at all to glance over the photos and if you recognize any of the faces.

I encourage you all to go to the first three sites I mentioned daily and also to make your social networking pages as charitable as possible. Best of luck as you save the world one click at a time!
