Some may not like the idea of young children and video games, but things are certainly changing. Each generation seems to get a little bit different from the previous one. Now kids as young as four years old are starting to learn to use computers on their own. So instead of fighting it why not help give your children a head start on what they will need to learn anyway. If you have a four year old, chances are by the time they reach school age, even more technology will have found it's way into their classroom.
Get your own Tablet
Of course you don't have to be that blunt about it, but this is what many parent's are starting to say to themselves. You have probably seen lots of kids leaning over their parents shoulder trying to get a peak at what they are doing. They can't seem to help it, most are drawn to technology. One of the newest items is the Leap Frog, Leap Pad Explorer Learning Tablet. This tablet has educational games for children who are between the ages of four and nine. The games that they will be playing on this tablet are all educational, so they will not be wasting time.
Most classrooms have them
Nowadays just about every classroom you walk in to has a computer lab or center set up. They have all kinds of educational games set up to help children learn basic computer skills while still learning. Back in 2008 Businessweek.com had an article that talked about how President Obama wants each child to have a computer or access to one. According to the article many teachers have found that computers are a great benefit to their students.
Large variety of programs
There seems to be an endless amount of computer programs that are available online. Many of those programs cater to schools and offer discounts if an entire school signs up for the program. So what do these programs offer? Many of these programs can track a child's progress, which helps teachers to identify problem areas in their students learning.
Computers are not replacements
Some parents hesitate to give their children access to computers, and don't even want them in the classroom. What many may not realize is that most teachers don't see computers as replacing them, instead they see it as a good addition. Many realize the benefits of having technology in the classroom, especially since many have to deal with overcrowded classrooms. Many teachers have stated that it helps to keep some of the students busy while the teacher is working with smaller groups of children.
The bottom line
There are plenty of hand held devices which can be used as an educational resource for your children. This means that as a parent you will need to take the time to do plenty of research on the products before you purchase them. This will help to ensure that the time your child spends playing video games is not wasted time.
