Give a Coat

Randy Jones
As the winter months come upon us again and the outside temperature starts to drop you may see a familiar site in your town or school or place of business. People who are out each day and are unable to afford warm coats to wear. Each year in America thousands of men, woman and children are sick and some even die from cold weather.

If you have jackets or coats or even gloves in which you are able to donate I would ask that everyone do their best. Many organizations in every town and city across the United States have drop off boxes for these items. The only request is that they are clean and able to be worn. If your not sure were to drop these off just call or visit any of the Police, Fire, EMS or Churches in your local area and they can direct you where.

It tears me apart to see a child or person try to go about daily activities during these cold months and have to do so cold and sick. I use to think if someone had a job why would they not provide? Well my question was answered one day when I saw that due to pay cuts and benefit cuts at a business one year a man had to make the gut wrenching decision to purchase food or pay rent and utilities. These are real lives and it's not always people spending money on drugs or alcohol or gambling. It is people trying to keep a car running to get to work or making sure that their children have a place to live.

I know that so many places continuously ask year around. For me this is a gift I hand deliver and know exactly who will be delivering it. So I ask everyone to do what you can and regardless of how small, many smalls add up to a tremendous large help. I've decided to cut back on my eating out for two months and take this money and give to help someone this year whether it be in the form of food, clothing or illness. I can make this decision but there are many who have it made for them. So if you want, join me and let me know what you decided to do.
