Sadly, though, most of us don't think about using our good fortune to enhance and bring a little holiday cheer to others less fortunate. Here are a couple of things, if you have the money to give a little extra, you can do to enrich the lives of two different groups of people for which the Christmas season might otherwise be very bleak and lonely.
Foster The Future
Thousands of foster children across America live in shelters, group homes and foster homes. Often these children don't get many, if any, gifts due to the small sums of money given to foster parents (the children in shelters and group homes don't fare as well as the ones in foster homes.) This is where you can make a grand entrance.
1. Make a charitable contribution to a children's charity in your area. These are a close as a phone call away. Remember: donations don't have to be huge sums of money. Every dollar counts!
2. If you worry about your donation going toward the appropriate cause, give gifts to the children's shelters or group homes. To locate these places, you can start with your local Department Of Human Services to steer you in the right direction.
Care For The Past
This age group has fought in World Wars to help keep America free, written laws, and been mothers and fathers to the future of the United States only to find themselves alone in their elderly years. You can help acknowledge the many sacrifices they have made by giving gifts to senior citizens who have no one in their lives.
1. Start by contacting Assisted Living Facilities, Residential Care Facilities or nursing homes in your area. Ask to speak with the Administrator or Manager of the facility to find out their policies on gift giving.
2. The meals on Wheel Program(if your area has one) is another great place for information regarding home-bound seniors.
3. The Senior and Disabled Division is another good resource to find places where you can give gifts to seniors.
Whether you decide to give to young people or senior citizens, you can be assured your gift will not only be appreciated, but cherished for many years to come.
