Give Your Hair a Break! Ways to Look Great with Natural Finger Styling

Jenna de Salea
If you're anything like me, you kill your hair with heat appliances most days of the week. Blow dryers, curling irons, flat irons, it can wreak havoc on your hair. Or you might be facing a time crunch and simply don't have time for the whole hair routine, so you need something that is more 'wash n go'.

Finger Styling is a great way to naturally style your hair while air drying. With just a little bit of product, you can have a great style by simply doing a few simple twists and letting the air do the work. It will help heal any brittle ends, save you energy, and it's pretty trendy with the hot looks of the moment.

Here are three tips for finger styling if you have straight, wavy, or curly hair:

If You Have Straight Hair
Divide hair after applying a thickening cream and combing through the ends. When finished, take 3-4 1in sections of hair, or more if you have very long and thick hair, and pin up until air dry. When finished, let out the pins and shake out the twists for a soft wave.

If You Have Naturally Wavy Hair
After washing hair, detangle hair with a wide tooth comb. Don't use a brush or a narrow comb as they can pull the curl out of your hair. Also don't towel dry because that can rough up the hair follicle and create frizz. Once hair is detangled, apply a texturizing product and scrunch the waves up while your hair air dries.

If You Have Curly Hair
A 'wet set' is the way to go if you have naturally curly hair when air drying. Like wavy hair, don't use a brush, narrow comb, or towel dry your hair after washing. Once your hair is detangled, apply a curl activating spray or gel and finger set by wrapping 1/2 inch sections around your finger and letting them air dry. This will give you smooth ringlets all over.

So give your hair a break from the heat and give Finger Styling a try. Experiment a little with different products and techniques to achieve your favorite look. You can rock a great new style, help your hair heal a little bit and save yourself some time along the way!
