Give the Man in Your Life What He Wants This Christmas

Great Holiday Gift Ideas for Men

Judy Liu
This is one of the most exciting and fun time of the year. We get to go holiday shopping for our loved ones. How can we avoid having our loved ones deal with waiting on long lines the day after Christmas returning something that we bought them? By simply buying something that they will enjoy. It can be difficult to shop for men sometimes. For example, I sometimes find it hard to shop for my husband since he tends to always buy what he wants. However, I've been able to come up with some great gift ideas that he and most men would enjoy.

Buy him specific sports equipment

Okay so your husband is an avid golfer and he really does not need another set of golf clubs (or at least that is what you think). However, he will really appreciate receiving a gift from you that shows you know his sports preference and more importantly that shows you support his interest in participating in sports. So, it's okay to splurge and buy him a new set of golf clubs (just convince him to sell off his old set of clubs to his buddies or online).

Let him bond with the boys

For that husband or boyfriend who always wanted to go on an all men's campout or road trip, agree to watch the kids for the week and let him go. This will be an unforgettable gift. He will enjoy it so much, he'll even offer to reciprocate.

Expose him to new experiences

Okay, so you always gripe about how your husband does not cook enough around the house, it's time to buy him a cooking lesson. You can research the local community college that offers cooking classes or better yet, find out from the restaurant that he frequents all the time whether they would let him shadow the chef for an hour or two (most restaurant owners would accommodate this request).

Remind him of his childhood

Sometimes we think that we need to force ourselves to grow up and do the same to the men in our lives. But a great stress reliever is to encourage your spouse or boyfriend to reconnect with his childhood passions and interests. So, if he always enjoyed Star Wars and hasn't gotten the latest collection in Blu-Ray, it's okay to buy it for him. When you keep the inner child happy, the man stays happier, too.

Volunteer together

A lot of men may balk at the idea of volunteering as a gift, but it's really a great experience to share. Know what he is confident and interested in and find a charity or organization that matches his interests. For the aspiring builders, there is Habitat for Humanity. For those interested in mentoring, there is Big Brother /Big Sister and Boy Scouts. At the end of the day, give him a souvenir. So if you worked on a building project, give him a tool set.

Ask him

Most people don't like asking for a wish list because it removes an element of surprise, but this guarantees that he gets what he wants. This year, give him something off the wish list and because you haven't done this before, the gift would actually be a surprise.

Buying gifts should not be a chore but a great experience. When you show enthusiasm in giving him what he wants he most likely will readily share the enthusiasm as well.
