Give Me the Rangel Tax Form Please!

Charlie Rangel readies himself for a supposed tongue lashing from Speaker of the House, Pelosi, for his handling of his tax problems. As Willie Nelson and Wesley Snipes will tell you, fighting with the IRS ain't fun. As Snipes faces a few years in prison, we find Charlie Rangel getting ready to endure a verbal slap on the hand. How can this be? Shouldn't our Congress people be held to a higher standard? Heck, shouldn't they at least be held to the same standard as regular hardworking taxpayers? Evidently not. Not only did Charlie Rangel get a lot of time to sort his "tax problem" out, he isn't facing jail time like we would in his shoes.

Give me the tax form Charlie Rangel uses. Give me the leeway that Charlie Rangel has been given. Give me the same punishment that Charlie Rangel is going to endure. If all Americans could skate on tax charges this easily, none of us would pay taxes and all of us would take a tongue lashing from Nancy Pelosi.

What has Charlie Rangel lost in all the hubbub over his unpaid taxes? Has he lost his extra homes? Has he lost money in fines? Aside from the material things Rangel may or may not have lost, what about the moral side of this? Some are calling Charlie Rangel a crook. Is this really how a man wants to live out the end of his life? What about his family? The embarrassment and shame would be crippling to most people. Why didn't Charlie Rangel just buck up and pay what he owed? Why was he so sure that he wouldn't be kicked out of office? Was it arrogance? Were others in power giving him the wink and nod?

Is Charlie Rangel the only one cheating on their taxes in our body of government? Rumor has it there are plenty more in Congress (and other places near by) that have been struck with the "I forgot" or "I didn't know!" syndrome of not paying taxes. When are we going to demand that everyone's books are opened and that an outside source check them all?

Thinking that government people, such as Charlie Rangel, are working on the honor system is wrong. These people claim stupidity as an excuse. How in the world do they find their way to the office? No one wants to pay taxes, but by law, most hardworking people pay them in order to finance the shenanigans going on in Washington. To do otherwise would ensure fines, confiscations and prison.
