Give Mom a Break (Even If It's Not Mother's Day)

Low Cost Ideas for Giving a Special Mother a Break from the Kids

Jane Meyer
Although highly rewarding and satisfying, it's tough being a mother. Stay at home moms (SAHM's) as well as working mothers deserve a break from the kids sometimes. Wouldn't it be nice to give your wife, friend, sister or daughter a well deserved break once in a while? Here are a few ideas on how to give her a break she will enjoy.

Mom's Break Idea #1 - Take the kids to the movies

By taking the kids to the movies, you are guaranteeing Mom at least two full hours of peace and downtime. Movies typically last for ninety minutes. Factor in the previews and travel time and you have given Mom at least two hours to indulge in her own hobbies and interests.

Mom's Break Idea #2 - Send her to the bookstore

Most bookstore chains like Barnes & Noble and Borders stay open until 11:00pm during the week and on Saturdays. Mom will cherish the time you give her by urging her to go out at night after the kids have gone to sleep.

At the bookstore, she can grab a pile of magazines and sit at the coffee bar with a nice hot drink. She may browse through the latest novels or peruse the business section in search of the latest finance news. Time flies by in a bookstore when you don't have to keep track of the kids. Mom will definitely appreciate this gesture.

Mom's Break Idea #3 - Do the grocery shopping

This idea will mostly work for husbands. If your wife normally takes care of the food shopping, offer to take the kids to the supermarket and do the weekly task for her. With the kids in tow, you will be out of the house for at least an hour and a half. As a bonus, offer to take the kids to Starbucks for a snack (and a coffee treat for you) and Mom will be able to enjoy a few hours of uninterrupted time.

Mom's Break Idea #4 - Let her take a bath

Mothers rarely have time to enjoy a luxurious bath. Offer to watch and play with the kids while she gets some privacy and rest while taking a long bath. This simple gesture doesn't cost anything and the generosity will be remembered for a long time.

It's easy to give mom a break without spending an exorbitant amount of money. The special mother you know in your life will appreciate a break, even if it's not Mother's Day or her birthday.
