Give Your Mother the Best Gift Ever for Mother's Day

Tell Her She's Right And Beautiful!

Lagniappe
In this economy, we're all looking at how to save here and there. Here are some tips on how to save on beauty supplies by employing some of the so-called "outdated" secrets your mom used.

Go buy some Vaseline.
Nothing beats it for deep moisturizing, and non-irritating eye makeup removal. Put it on your hands (under gloves) before dish-washing for a quick manicure, or on your feet (under socks) before bed for brand new feet in the morning.

As for the eye makeup, just spread some on the whole eye area, wipe with a cotton ball, then wash and moisturize as usual. Don't worry if there's some residue left behind; there should be. That residue will act to protect delicate eye skin from dehydration, which is what causes those darned crow's feet.

Ready for more? Time for cucumbers!
The image of women with cucumber slices over their eyes is omnipresent in beauty magazines for a reason: It works. Its ascorbic acid, caffeic acid, and high water content serve to not only depuff tired eyes, but also rehydrate the skin (there go those dark circles!) in the process. The juice is also a miracle-worker for the complexion. Simply mix it with a bit of honey for a toner that will help enliven your complexion. You can even use the leftover pulp as a mask to prevent acne and blackheads.

Oatmeal. Every day.
It's good for your heart to eat it, and great for your skin to wear it. Oatmeal not only soothes dry, irritated skin, but it also serves to purify and moisturize. Mix it with honey and yogurt for an amazing 15-minute facial that will yield tighter, dewier, glowing skin. Put some in your bath with powdered milk and honey for a total-body spa treatment. Or mix it with brown sugar and lemon for an incredible exfolliating scrub.

Finally, olive oil is good for more than your cholesterol.
This old-world staple is good for more than just your diet. Its powerful blend of both antioxidants and polyphenol prevents the formation of free radicals in cells. This means it's scientifically proven to slow the aging process. Simply put a light layer on your skin in place of high-priced moisturizer. Not only will it serve to firm the skin, but it will also guard against the harmful effects of the sun.
