Give Weis One More Year

ND Coach Weis Has Done Enough to Come Back Next Season

Charlie Weis has everything he needs to succeed as head football coach at Notre Dame but the results just haven't translated onto the field. He constantly has the best ranked recruits but the last two seasons hasn't shown that.

The Irish have lost 15 games the past two seasons but they stand at 6-6 this year, much improved from 3-9 a season ago. I think this warrants another year for Weis in ND. Quarterback Jimmy Clausen will be entering his third season as starter and he should be one of the top QBs in the country next season.

Athletic Director Jack Swarbrick has stated that he looks forward to Weis coaching the team for a long time and Weis has had a positive impact on the team off the field as well. ND Football has one of the highest graduation rates in the country and their overall team GPA has been over 3.0 for the past three seasons, something that hasn't been done there in a long time.

After starting out this season at 5-2, the Irish have struggled down the stretch and they had two painfully tough losses at home. They lost to Pittsburgh in overtime and Syracuse, after a missed field goal could have won the game. Those two losses shouldn't have happened and those could be pinned on Weis but that won't hurt him completely.

Weis has his team on the rebound after losing Brady Quinn two seasons ago. We all knew they would struggle last season but Weis has his team heading in the right direction. Give him at least another year and if he doesn't get to a bowl game then, buyout his contract. Weis will have the team he needs to push for a BCS berth next season.
